THIS IS WHAT “JUSTICE” LOOKS LIKE.

Ravindra and Sonali Wakode, waiting outside Azad Maidan after another day of hunger strike for their deceased 20-year-old son, Sahil Wakode. They are permitted to protest only until 6 PM. Then they leave and return the next morning. Their demand is accountability for their son's suicide and caste discrimination at IIT Bombay. The family has demanded action against Prof. Suryanarayana Doolla and IIT Bombay Director Shireesh Kedare.

WE HAVE BEEN COMING HERE SINCE THE BEGINNING. Day after day, Sahil's parents sit inside Azad Maidan. They have said that Sahil repeatedly faced caste discrimination at IIT Bombay. An FIR was registered in connection with his death, and the Crime Branch investigation continues. And still, his parents are having to starve themselves to demand accountability.

Ten years after Rohith Vemula's death, India still does not have a national Rohith Vemula Act. THE ROHITH ACT WAS DEMANDED SO ANOTHER ROHITH WOULD NOT HAVE TO DIE. And now another Dalit student is dead, while his parents have clearly said it was due to caste discrimination and sit on hunger strike demanding accountability. WHAT JUSTICE IS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE TO PEOPLE?? Parents and students have to stop eating. A family demanding answers is kept outside the institution where their son died!

AND AZAD MAIDAN IS AN ISOLATED BUBBLE. And that is deliberate. It is controlled dissent. You are technically allowed to protest, but only in the designated space and only during permitted hours. Sahil's family received permission for the hunger strike only until 6 PM each day. What does the right to protest mean when the parents who are demanding accountability are kept physically separated from the institution they are protesting against?

THEIR PROTEST HAS BEEN KEPT AWAY FROM IIT BOMBAY. Sahil's parents say they have been prevented from accessing the campus. They are protesting at Azad Maidan instead. Meanwhile, 8 IIT Bombay students began their own hunger strike inside the institute in solidarity with the family and over demands for institutional accountability. So there are 2 hunger strikes. One outside the institution. One inside it. Politicians come, take pictures, and leave. Journalists come, take a bite, and leave. Very few people are around. Truly around. No agenda.

खिद्रापुर, कोल्हापुर: ऐतिहासिक कोपेश्वर मंदिर परिसर में खुदाई के दौरान प्राचीन मूर्ति के अवशेष मिलने से इलाके में चर्चा छिड़ गई है। कुछ दिन पहले मूर्ति का आधार मिला था, और हाल में चेहरे का हिस्सा भी निकला है।

स्थानीय समाचारों के अनुसार खुदाई में नंदी की मूर्ति, गोद में बच्चे को लिए स्त्री की नक्काशी और बुद्ध जैसी मुखाकृति वाली मूर्ति के टुकड़े भी मिले हैं।

Today, some students from IIT Bombay came to Azad Maidan to meet Sahil's parents, bringing with them a heartbreaking reminder of that tragic loss. The moment Sahil's mother saw them, her patience completely broke down. Holding onto hope despite her profound grief, she burst into tears and asked just one harrowing question: "Was my Sahil subjected to severe torture?"

No parent should ever have to ask such a devastating question about their child. Even though none of us can fully comprehend the depth of her pain, we can ensure she does not have to carry this heavy burden alone.

In this fight for truth and justice, Sahil’s family needs our empathy, our voice and our unwavering support.

आज IIT बॉम्बे के कुछ छात्र साहिल के माता पिता से मिलने आज़ाद मैदान पर आए और अपने साथ उस नुकसान की एक दिल दहला देने वाली याद लेकर आए। जैसे ही साहिल की माँ ने उन्हें देखा, उनका सब्र टूट गया। गहरे दुख के बावजूद उम्मीद का दामन थामे हुए, वे (साहिल की माँ) रोने लगीं और बस एक ही दिल दहला देने वाला सवाल पूछा: "क्या मेरे साहिल को बहुत बुरी तरह टॉर्चर किया गया था?"

किसी भी माता-पिता को कभी भी अपने बच्चे के बारे में ऐसा दुखद सवाल नहीं पूछना पड़ना चाहिए। भले ही हममें से कोई भी उनके दुख की गहराई को पूरी तरह नहीं समझ सकता, लेकिन हम यह पक्का कर सकते हैं कि उन्हें यह भारी बोझ अकेले न उठाना पड़े। सच और न्याय की लड़ाई में साहिल के परिवार को हमारी हमदर्दी, हमारी आवाज़ और हमारे अटूट समर्थन की ज़रूरत है।

आइए, साहिल के दुखी परिवार के साथ उनके इस सबसे मुश्किल समय में एकजुट होकर खड़े हों।
