EU countries agreed to allow Ukraine citizens to stay in their countries for 3 years without applying 4 asylum.
The same countries did everything to stop refugees from AFG & IRQ on their borders. Norway deported AFGs just before the collapse of Kabul.
4 years before 9/11 the United States hosted the Taliban in Texas hoping to secure a gas and oil pipe deal.
Unocal invited the Taliban on a charm tour of Texas while the State Department and the CIA treated them as potential allies
Today is the 20th anniversary of the Ahmad Shah Massoud assassination.
Many people don’t realize that a Tunisian jihadi network was behind it.
I explain who they were and why it still remains important today for the @WashInstitute: https://t.co/aukyqG9pla
Ariana News reported that one of its own reporters was "ALLEGEDLY" beaten by the Taliban. This is a clear example of self-censorship. #Afghan journalists are scared to write against the Talibs even f they are 100% sure about the accuracy of the report. Their fears are legitimate.
More important than chatter about military hardware are liquidity problems. When these don’t get solved/escalate - as they are bound to - hard to think that the already bleak situation won’t become much (much) worse.
1/ After yesterday's horrible attack in Kabul, some may be confused about the name of the group that was responsible: ISIS-K, with "K" standing for "Khurasan"
The name Khurasan isn't much used today, but it has deep resonance in Iranian, Central Asian, and Islamic culture
To people of the world:
#Khorasan is a beloved name for us in Iran and Afghanistan, as an essential part of our culture and history. It is unfortunate if many hear the name for the first time affiliated with ISIS. Khorasan is the land of incredible music, poetry and architecture.
Armed robbery & abduction cases reported to be rising in Kabul & some major cities since the release of thousands of criminals from jails after Taliban's take over. The fact that there are no uniforms for Taliban policing, makes it easier for criminal groups to operate freely.
This was one of the best episodes we've ever done at @WCrowdsLive. I absolutely loved hearing @jmurtazashvili's perspective. She's one of the best Afghanistan scholars around. It was raucous and rich and a masterclass in recent Afghan history
