For many households and businesses, an interruption in electricity is an interruption to work, income and daily life. That is why I value conversations that bring the right people together and quickly lead to a clear plan of action.
I joined the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, in a meeting with His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the Lagos State leadership at Lagos House, Marina. We discussed how the Federal Government and Lagos State can work together to improve the reliability of electricity supply across the Lagos corridor.
Lagos will serve as the first pilot for the 24/7 Energy Zones initiative approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT . What we learn and deliver here will help guide the approach in the Abuja, Kaduna and Kano corridor and the Enugu and Port Harcourt corridor. For me, this is a practical expression of the Renewed Hope Agenda, bringing institutions together around a challenge that affects people and businesses every day.
I am particularly encouraged that the conversation has already moved into an implementation structure. A Joint Technical Committee has been established to drive the work and report to a Steering Committee chaired by Governor Sanwo Olu and co chaired by the Honourable Minister. This gives the participating institutions a shared responsibility to follow through on the decisions made.
I thank the Governor and Deputy Governor for receiving us, and the Honourable Minister for his leadership. I am grateful to be part of a conversation that is turning into coordinated action.
The work ahead is significant, but so is the opportunity to deliver more dependable electricity for the people and businesses that rely on it.

Nigeria’s off grid energy sector has grown far beyond the small group of pilot projects and partners we knew when the first donor roundtable was held in 2017. That growth is encouraging, but it also makes one thing clear. We cannot deliver the next phase of electricity access by working in silos.
I shared this message at the launch of the Off Grid Stakeholder Coordination and Partnership Forum, convened by the REA with support from GIZ NESP, UK PACT, SNV and GOGLA. It was an opportunity to bring development partners, financiers, civil society and other sector stakeholders into the same conversation about where we have made progress and where we need to work more closely together.
Across programmes such as NEP and DARES, we have seen what partnerships can make possible. We also know the challenges ahead, including making electricity more affordable, attracting private capital, supporting local manufacturing and building services that remain viable over time. No single institution can address these issues alone.
That is why we are making coordination a continuous part of the REA’s work. Through a dedicated Off Grid Coordination Secretariat, working groups and better tracking of shared priorities, we want to help partners connect their efforts and turn discussions into action. The Forum gave us a chance to introduce this approach, listen to one another and begin agreeing on the work ahead.
My thanks to GIZ NESP, UK PACT, SNV, GOGLA, Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Beckaphyll and Murty International Ltd for their support, and to all our development partners, financiers, private sector representatives and civil society stakeholders for contributing to a successful forum.
The strength of this sector lies in the people and institutions building it together. Our task now is to ensure those efforts bring reliable electricity and lasting opportunities to more Nigerians.

Few things give me as much satisfaction as seeing reliable electricity become part of the everyday life of a university.
Today, we officially commissioned the 3MW Solar Hybrid Power Plant at Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, under Phase II of the Energizing Education Programme.
For me, the impact is simple, because reliable power gives students a better learning environment, keeps laboratories and research facilities running, and allows the university to function with greater consistency and productivity.
During my remarks, I had to acknowledge the Honourable Minister of Power, who has been very consistent about asking us the same questions: When will it be completed? When are we commissioning? And how will we make sure it remains sustainable?
That last question matters just as much as the first two.
This plant must remain a productive asset long after the commissioning ceremony is over. That is why the work we are doing around RAMCO and the long term management and sustainability of renewable energy infrastructure is so important.
I am also proud that EEP II is building people alongside infrastructure. Across the participating institutions, about 120 students have received hands-on technical training in solar PV design, installation, operations, safety and maintenance, 20 students in each university.
That is another kind of impact I deeply appreciate. We are not only powering campuses; we are giving young Nigerians practical exposure to the energy systems that will increasingly shape their future.
We at the REA remain dedicated to improving the educational sector through the deployment of energy solutions with the aim of enhancing learning conditions in our federal universities.
Today, we further corroborated our commitment to the advancement of energy access in federal universities by signing an MoU with the Federal Ministry of Education @NigEducation to build a long-term strategic collaboration design aimed at scaling-up the Energizing Education Programme and the development and operation of sustainable decentralised solar power solutions across all federal institutions in Nigeria.
Already, 20 federal universities are being powered by the renewable energy intervention of the REA, and we have just signed collaboration agreements with eight federal universities for the development and installation of hybrid solar mini-grids through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF). The universities are as follows:
1. Federal University Wukari, Taraba State
2. Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
3. Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State
4. University of Ibadan, Oyo State
5. University of Lagos
6. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State
7. University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State
8. University of Benin

Our vision is to keep expanding, innovating, and bringing light to every corner of this nation.
In line with the REA’s mission to bridge Nigeria’s energy access gap, I had the honour of welcoming His Excellency, @OfficialOAU, the Governor of Kogi State, on a courtesy visit.
As one of the vibrant states in the North Central, with a growing population and a thriving agricultural economy, Kogi State holds significant potential. Our discussions focused on adopting the National Electrification Strategy and Implementation Plan (NESIP) to enhance electricity generation and supply in the state.
In this regard, we are organising a roundtable where the REA, financiers, Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs), and the Kogi State Government will convene to establish incentives and define the operational framework for this initiative.
Exciting Progress in National Electrification!
Today, I had the honour of presenting the National Electrification Strategy and Implementation Plan (NESIP) to His Excellency, Vice President @officialSKSM
My meeting with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, was splendid. I got to bring him up to speed on the achievements of the REA and reiterated our commitment to completing and upscaling our ongoing activities.
