@linuxjournal Containers take the form of their host but can be shaped and separated by kernel tricks (e.g. chroots, cgroups, namespaces, etc.); something more liquidy would be nice for a change. Cookie dough, play dough? Silly putty? Non-Newtonian fluid? Balloons inside of balloons even?

@linuxjournal Private companies with closed source / internal software should be running their own GitLab or Gitea instance (preferably on-site). Likewise, if GitHub's source is closed, it makes sense for FOSS projecs to be on a likewise FOSS platform e.g. GitLab, GNU/Savannah, etc.

@nixcraft @github Docker deployment of Gitea works well for us! Issues, wikis, very familiar interface to anyone who uses GitHub and excellent LDAP support. GitLab is also a reasonable choice, although the deployment and maintenance would be slightly more complicated given its broad featureset.

@nixcraft Go with Debian! It's the gold standard for all deb-based operating systems. Alternatively, Fedora is a pretty solid distro. Lastly, if you *must* have Ubuntu or need excellent HiDPI support, the guys over at @system76 made Pop!_OS
