CBSE mandates 3-language study from Class 9 starting July 1, 2026. At least 2 languages must be native Indian languages under NEP 2020 & NCFSE 2023. English is considered as native. No board exam for the 3rd language (R3); assessment will be school-based and internal.

[Megh Updates 🚨™ @MeghUpdates]

🚨 BIG! CBSE makes three languages COMPULSORY for Class 9 students from July 1, 2026.

Classes 9-10 students must study 3 languages (R1, R2, R3) with at least 2 being native Indian languages.
– Foreign language only as 3rd option.
– No board exam for R3, but passing mandatory.

From July Class 9 students will study 3 languages (2 Indian). For 2028 Class 10 Boards the R3 (3rd language) will be internal exam, not by CBSE. For now level of R3 will be very basic. NO changes in current Class 10.

[Amarnath Shivashankar @Amara_Bengaluru]

CBSE board has made the 3rd language mandatory from Class 9 from the upcoming academic year. Its an idiotic move. There is absolutely zero utility studying the 3rd Language. Add Finance, Economics, AI/Computer Science, Advanced science & Advanced Mathematics instead.
Add core skills like Carpentry, Welding, Foundry, Masonry, Cooking, Electrical work etc instead. Make swimming mandatory instead. Make Physical Education mandatory.
Teach children what feeds them and what protects their health on a longer run..

@dpradhanbjp @cbseindia29 urge authorities & education minister to reverse the decision of the introduction of 3rd language for class 9. In an era when we talk about focusing on core subjects and students not to be burdened, not sure why we are making this change.

@dpradhanbjp Minister please concentrate to conduct NEET in CBT mode. Please concentrate publication of 9th class books. The book scarcity is everywhere. The quality of Ncert books are very low in terms of education. Abolish 3rd language for class 9, it should be implemented from class 6th.
