UPDATE: Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama has threatened to arrest more ministry officials accused of colluding with land dealers to erect new structures along planned road projects in a bid to secure large compensation payouts. In Mpigi District, three land dealers have been identified, and security agencies have been instructed to apprehend them. The Kisubi-Nakawuka-Nateete-Kasanje-Mpigi road project was allocated Shs430 billion for compensation of project-affected persons, exceeding the Shs340.5 billion contract sum for construction of the road. Byamukama says the government is also considering changing the road alignment to avoid areas where compensation costs have been inflated.
