Lawrie Hooper MHK had little sympathy for a Manx student on Twitter recently. He said the system wasn’t broken and that students should just go to the bank and borrow more money.

Numbers of Isle of Man students furthering their education is still dropping, a most unwelcome trend. Latest initiative re grants is the beginning of a nod in the right direction, but doesnt address the problems where they actually are.

@Lightly2017 @Gedpower Big issue for Universities is that they are struggling to fill places so give out unconditionals to try get more students through their doors. Students still work very hard. Unconditional can relieve some of the pressure and be better for their performance and mental health.

Setting parameters of 3 A levels at ‘C’ or above was the only conditional step for funding Gov needed to take

@breeshasdad Tuition fees AND maintenance, ensuring all students can access higher education. Seems to be very accessible with the income bands!
