What I’m getting, and what I’ve been thinking, is that this all really comes down to a skill issue. A good writer seems to be a person who is self aware and able to report things as they are without adding too much emotionality, or rather knowing the balance of emotionality vs what is true
This is good. This is helping me. I have a few songs set aside that I just feel bad about, even though they’re good, and I’ve been trying to find out if that’s fear of failure or a natural instinct not to whine or put that out into peoples ears. I used to just write and perform what I was feeling and think nothing of it. In a way I believe that makes for really really good art. But as I get older I want to filter myself more, really express in a concise way that is more observational or storytelling than it is commentary
Seems really situational, and also dependent on the way you convey that honesty. For me with songwriting, I try to be honest about both myself and others, but not vindictive. Never said anything directly offensive, except a song about my deadbeat dad who, funnily enough, reached out to me when he heard that song after like 10 years of not speaking to voice his frustration with it! Lol
My husband and I are very similar! I teeter on this with being creative, but a lot of the time I lean toward brutal honesty being good even if it hurts feelings. That can even be a sign that something needs to be addressed with them. Maybe it opens up a dialogue. I am bad with direct confrontation for people other than my husband, but i can write a song about anything, for example
@RizomaSchool Is it unethical every time? Let’s say hypothetically you were wronged, and your expression is a catharsis that helps you and others understand the experience
@belac46@tanylake@VivaldiVril Blocked so I couldn’t reply but this is what I was going to say. Have you ever tried to walk away from someone attacking you? It’s not realistic
@tanylake@VivaldiVril That’s what you do when someone’s being violent towards you. You make sure they stop. Was he supposed to let her beat the crap out of him while trying to get away?
She doesn’t just start it by grabbing his beer. Right after that she tries to swing at him. When he pushes her down she gets up and comes at him again, grabbing a glass bottle. All while he’s trying to get his stuff and leave. If she were really trying to protect herself she wouldn’t have kept coming back at him. I think he did a good job using just enough physicality to keep her away so he could leave. Idk how others aren’t seeing this
We’ve got friends trying to get us to move to Georgia (too hot) friends trying to get us to move to Nashville (too gay) but if we stay here it’s a little too retarded. Gotta pick a trade off. I prefer to be retarded
