I am not defending his posture in front of a patient or a patient’s relative as seen in the picture. However, he is likely more than 24 hours into a call shift, having seen over 100 consults and reviewed hundreds of X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasounds. A little understanding and compassion would go a long way, please consider cutting him some slack.

Blame the system where doctors are forced to see hundreds of patients in a single shift, something that does not happen in any developed country. The reason is simple, healthcare is never a true priority for governments. Building a new tertiary care hospital or increasing house job and training positions never gets the same public attention as constructing a flashy road or bridge.
