Lots of people say this especially men who work a lot.
But what sorts of hard are we talking about? My dad worked a lot and I think he got a lot of satisfaction. But I also wish he just worked less and was around.
I like to ask this question to people: do you wish your parents were more ambitious in their goals or more present and connected to you?
I am not convinced the best thing I can do for my three year old is to go battle the business world right now and be away from her more. But I can also see why this is a helpful story for some.
For me it’s clear that work is necessary for me to be connected to myself and be satisfied with life. But I think more parents should consider that a bigger challenge may be finding ways to be connected to their kids than capturing shareholder value
@sariazout Talk to @tonystoodios. Worked with him while running ops for @TomFrankly’s channel and have since worked with him on my own projects. He’s the best.
Maybe you’re wondering why I post this stuff, is it just virtue signaling? Well it’s not not that… but the intention I have is showing we have all these massive time-savers but they only work if we fill our lives with new choices
I see many people not claiming back their time!
@anuatluru Agreed. I don’t understand why this is even a hot take though. This has happened over and over throughout time (including in our own lifetime).
Feels like the hot take should be anything other than this.
@nbaschez I’m working on something similar and agree on the solid feedback loop. Trialing layers of vetting too.
Hope you share more about this project!
Sad to hear that Ada's Technical Books in Seattle is closing this week -- it's a wonderful bookstore. I always found something obscure but interesting when I visited.

@selentelechia There’s the constant “omg this [insert hard stage] is going to last forever” feeling with your first. Equivalent to watching a pot boil.
The current AI panic feels strange to me.
AI, as it exists today, is a set of numbers in a file that can do interesting and useful things. It’s a tool. A very powerful one, but still a tool. We’re far from conscious machines or AI replacing all human work.
It’s also useful to look at the data. E.g., software roles are still increasing, and so are PM jobs.
4.8 has been weird so far.
Seeing flashes of brilliance, but still has the same pushback personality from 4.7 and an annoying habit of adding extra tasks for me instead of just doing it.
Only tested high and extra, but for now still feeling 4.6 > 4.8
