1. Goodness, if you can, get the vaccine. I've heard some miserable stories about folks who got medical exemptions for no apparent reason. It's an airbag, you won't regret it, and I'm grateful every time I can breath deeply.
Granted, I'm young, I don't have any history of respiratory issues, I'm not immune compromised. I'm privileged to be able-bodied and healthy, which helps, I'm sure. That said, a few thoughts:
Wow, so crying at speeches usually isn't my thing, but tonight I heard "regardless of your gender" and lost it. Woof. The world's a damn mess, but wow, it's nice to feel seen.
"It Is Time for More Critical CS Education," by @AmyJKo, @OAlannah, @NeilDRyan1, @YimRegister, @BenjiXie, @MinahimiTari, Matthew Davidson, @Stefania_Druga, and Dastyni Loksa, says CS #educators must make inequity, injustice, and #bias visible to #society. https://t.co/TjM9qNbop0
My Ph.D. students and I wrote a CACM Viewpoints article calling for more critical computing education. Take 5 minutes, tell us what you think, share, and then act. https://t.co/iO2oRByfcC
Inspired by the radical energies of our moment, its time to fundamentally rethink STEM education. #shutdownSTEM see our new piece @dmoralesdoyle @shirinblue @meganbang3 https://t.co/CmqJEFb1tG
I'm too lazy to do it, but someone should write an essay about how techno-capitalists took a "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" approach towards Buddhist philosophy through productivity-enhancing mindfulness. See also why micro-dosing will get you VC funded by January. *sigh*
I know some Trump supporters want trans people like me dead. I just never thought they’d chant it. At a protest. On video. 15 minutes from my old hood in Pittsburgh. After chanting that all lives matter. (LGBTQ Nation for the video, if you must)
<sarcasm>Know what would really advance trans rights? Granting powerful, transphobic people protection from public shaming. After all, the only path to justice is open debate in which oppressors are protected from consequence and the oppressed must defend their humanity</sarcasm>
The purpose of curfews is not to limit looting. Looting is illegal with or without a curfew in place. The purpose of curfews is to limit peaceful protest. The preemptive use of curfews has escalated this situation, endangered the public, and is almost certainly unconstitutional.
I’m someone who’s had a hard time grappling with settling on fully supporting prison abolition because I felt like I needed to know how it would tangibly work. I’ve been working to get over that, but these graphics helped me “get it” more so maybe they may help you if you relate!
