The speeches delivered by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga at the 23rd ZANU PF Peopleโs Conference in Chinhoyi should be read in their entirety, not selectively interpreted to manufacture a leadership rift.
Both speeches touched on accountability, discipline, self-reflection and the need to turn party resolutions into tangible results. The President has emphasised the need to tackle corruption and complacency, whilst the Vice President spoke about correcting past mistakes and ensuring orderly change through established party structures.
These messages are not necessarily contradictory. An organisation can review its shortcomings, demand accountability and renew itself without abandoning its leadership or its founding principles.
Zimbabweโs Vision 2030 requires focus, unity of purpose and a commitment to national development.
Internal reflection should not automatically be mistaken for division. Read the speeches, examine the context and judge the message on its substance.๐ฟ๐ผ

@takabatana Selective interpretation is not factual reporting! VP Chiwenga emphasised constitutional order, party structures, discipline and collective leadership. His remarks should be read in full, not automatically presented as an attack on President Mnangagwa. #Chakasimba
๐ฟ๐ผ๐ Zimbabwe is in the running alongside Zambia to host YouthConnekt Africa 2027! A win would put our young entrepreneurs on the continental stage, opening doors to investment, partnerships and new markets. The final verdict awaits! #YouthConnektZim2027#NDS2#VakaZim
@mawarirej These allegations are nothing but lies and fabricated intelligence, deliberately packaged as an exclusive political scoop A sensational story built on unnamed sources, unverified claims and political speculation. Rumours cannot substitute for facts. #Chakasimba
I like the way the Vice Presidentโs speech was written, complementing his superior, the Presidentโs speech. It was as if the two speeches were written by one person.
The attempt by opposition elements and political detractors to manufacture a rift between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and VP Constantino Chiwenga following the 23rd Peopleโs Conference in Chinhoyi says more about their wishes than the actual content of the speeches.
A closer reading reveals significant alignment on accountability, party discipline, people-centred governance and the need to translate resolutions into tangible results. President Mnangagwa has repeatedly called for an end to complacency, corruption and resolutions that exist only on paper. The VPโs questions about past mistakes and the need for internal renewal can be understood within that same framework of institutional self-assessment.
Even the much-amplified declaration that โchange is inevitableโ comes with an important qualification: Chiwenga explicitly says change must be orderly, guided by the party constitution and channelled through established structures. That is a call for institutional discipline, not an announcement of rebellion. His emphasis on collective purpose over individual ambition further reinforces the importance of party unity.
Of course, pointed remarks deserve to be examined in their full context. But there is a fundamental difference between demanding accountability within an organisation and challenging its leadership. One cannot simply manufacture the latter from the former.
The Presidentโs Vision 2030 agenda requires a party that constantly evaluates itself, corrects its shortcomings and remains focused on national development. Read in that context, the VPโs address reinforces many of the same priorities rather than establishing the dramatic confrontation some commentators are desperate to sell.
The opposition may wish for a divided ZANU PF, but wishful thinking is not evidence. Read both speeches in full, examine their substance, and stop confusing internal reflection with political warfare.

@KMutisi@edmnangagwa Absolutely! President @edmnangagwaโs leadership has brought visible progress in infrastructure, industrialisation, agriculture and economic development. The Second Republic must be judged by results, not political rhetoric. ๐ฟ๐ผ #Chakasimba#Vision2030
President @edmnangagwa is the BOSS, & he has done REMARKABLY WELLโฆ Any rational person can see the HUGE DIFFERENCE between the State of Zimbabwe before November 2017 & after November 2017.
VP Chiwenga asked questions, some of them rhetorical, while others actually deserve some answers.
1. Before the 2nd Republic, Zimbabwe was literally a supermarket selling foreign goods.
Now, in 2026, more than 90% of products on Supermarket Shelves are manufactured in Zimbabwe. Even though there are still imported products, there is always a similar local product.
This alone, is enough evidence that the Zimbabwean economy has massively transformed over the past 8 years due to the 2nd Republicโs effective policies and President @edmnangagwaโs exceptional leadership.
2. Before the 2nd Republic, there were no major infrastructure projects directly funded by the govt, NONE.
Now, in 2026, we have road construction, dam construction, schools, hospitals, clinics, & university infrastructure DIRECTLY funded by the govt of Zimbabwe.
That alone tells you that the CORRUPTION & INEFFICIENCY of the past is GONE! It tells you that folks like @MthuliNcube01 & @GGuvamatanga are doing a great job in collecting revenue & using it to fund infrastructure projects. For that, they should be respected & applaudedโฆ thatโs the least any rational Zimbabwean can do!
3. Before the 2nd Republic, Zimbabwe was struggling to earn foreign currency. That led to huge legacy debts owed to Airlines that sold their tickets at 1:1 (bond note exchange rate). Those airlines couldnโt get forexโฆ we still owe some of them.
Now, in 2026, Zimbabwe is projected to have a $3 billion current account surplus. This means Zimbabweโs economy is earning more forex than it is sending out! Itโs also a sign that Zimbabwe is now producing & exporting more goods than ever before! Adding to that, Zimbabweโs forex earnings for 2026 will be the highest ever!
If this doesnโt tell you that the country is moving in the right direction, nothing else will.
4. In October 2017, the IMF put Zimbabweโs GDP at $17 billion.
Now, in 2026, the IMF puts Zimbabweโs GDP at $56.7 billion. Thatโs a 234% increase in GDP in the past 8 years under the leadership of President @edmnangagwa.
This increase in GDP is not theoretical, it is VISIBLE & FELT through the massive increase in construction, mining, manufacturing, & agricultural production. Zimbabwe is now wheat self-sufficient. Cement demand is at its highest level ever, fuel consumption has reached record highs, forex earnings have risen massively - all this points to increased GDP.
5. In 2017, Zimbabwe didnโt have its own currency. In 2017, Zimbabwe didnโt have any Forex or Gold Reserves, NOTHING.
In 2026, after President MNANGAGWAโs directive in 2023, Zimbabwe now has almost 5 tonnes of Gold Reserves. This means Zimbabwe has the 3rd largest gold reserves in SADC, the 11th largest gold reserves in Africa.
All this has been done under the leadership of President @edmnangagwa working with the @TreasuryZW team & @ReserveBankZIM team.
6. In 2017, Zimbabwe was experiencing massive Loadshedding.
Now, in 2026, Zimbabwe has gone for 300 consecutive days without any Loadshedding. President @edmnangagwa ended Loadshedding in Zimbabwe, and every rational person knows it and acknowledges it!
7. In 2017, Zimbabwe was, for all practical purposes, a pariah. Almost everyone in Cabinet was under sanctions & many Zimbabwean entities were under sanctions.
In 2026, Zimbabwe has effectively been readmitted into the comity of nations. The European Union removed all sanctions on Zimbabwe, the US terminated the Zimbabwe Sanctions Program, & Zimbabwe was recently elected to the UN Security Council with an overwhelming majority!
All this is because President Mnangagwa has been PRAGMATIC, choosing to be a friend to all, enemy to none!
In short, the 2nd Republic is not repeating mistakes of the past, it is DELIVERING!
From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Empowerment Towards Vision 2030.
As we gathered at the 23rd National Peopleโs Conference, I reminded all delegates and progressive Zimbabweans that leadership is a duty to serve. It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to promote, defend, and advance our Partyโs ideology, policies, and resolutions.
MuZANU PF hamudi zvemazvake mazvake. Tinofanira kufamba tose, takabatana uye tiine gwara rimwe. There is no room for solo efforts or dividing our focusโneither lagging behind nor running ahead out of step. We move forward together: step by step, brick by brick!
We stand on the shoulders of giants. We pay a ringing tribute to the brave Chinhoyi 7 who made the ultimate sacrifice for our liberation, alongside our founding Executive President, Cde R.G. Mugabe, and the many heroes of Mashonaland West. Through their sacrifice, we fulfilled the sacred mission of retaking our land and re-uniting it with its true owners.
Today, the unity within our Party and the peace across our nation validate our leadership. Our targeted policies and programmes are bear visible fruit, continuously improving the quality of life and livelihoods for ordinary citizens.
To ensure we all march to the same rhythm of development, the Chitepo School of Ideology is open to allโincluding the private sector, which can request tailor-made training programmes to help align our national vision.
Let us remain united, focused, and disciplined as we consolidate our economic gains and deepen empowerment, leaving no one and no place behind!
