🚨 We're Hiring! 🚨
At EMBL Barcelona we build tissues to understand them, and we are looking for a Group Leader in Tissue Biology & Disease Modelling!
🔬 Lead independent research on 3D tissue dynamics & engineering
📅 Apply by 24 Nov 2024

Internship alert!
We are looking for a Master’s student to join our lab in @EMBLBarcelona this autumn to work on inter-species comparison of developmental time using stem cell zoo. You'll learn stem cells, quantitative imaging & genetic modification. With financial support.

Happy holidays! Introducing https://t.co/Ub3wgs1KVz, an AI-powered app that lets you chat with your data in English! RTutor uses Davinci (#ChatGPT’s sibling) to turn requests into R code, which is executed & results are shown instantly, available as a HTML report in seconds. 1/8
@GMartinezAra wrote a great overview about his PhD project and development of OptoShroom3. We now use this tool in brain organoids to look into interplay between morphology and cell fate!
Check Guillermo's article in @the_Node🔥
I wrote a short "Behind the paper" article for @the_Node!! Here I discuss the details of the development of OptoShroom3 at @EbisuyaMiki's lab, including some personal views and advice for using OptoShroom3! Check it out: https://t.co/gfUNiasr49
New preprint from the lab!
Using the STEM CELL ZOO, we recapitulated the SEGMENTATION CLOCKS of SIX mammals: mouse, marmoset, rabbit, human, cow & rhinoceros!
With the power of 6 species, we found several scaling laws of the segmentation clock periods.

The first doctor from my EMBL lab, Dr. Guillermo Martínez Ara🍾🍾
Thanks, @viktri08@Ruprecht_Lab@XavierTrepat, for thoughtful questions and discussions.
@GMartinezAra, Obviously I'm biased, but you presented and defended perfectly! Congratulations!!
New paper from the lab!
We developed an optogenetic tool, OptoShroom3, to induce apical constriction in illuminated cells(left).
By controlling cell shapes, OptoShroom3 can induce tissue shape changes, including lumen shrinkage of neural organoids(right).

#EMBOdevtempo has very nice vibes and networks so far!
I will be by the poster 68 today telling how cell shape can affect cell fate in brain organoids!
Looking forward🧠
New paper from the lab!
We developed a novel human organoid that periodically forms somite-like structures. The spheroid of human iPS cells elongates and starts forming pairs of somites according to the segmentation clock.

We extended the abstract submission deadline until May 1st for EMBO workshop: timing mechanisms linking development and evolution.
Check out the speakers (gorgeous!) and place (right next to the beach in Barcelona!) and apply!!
