I absolutely love this story........ It made me cry.
"An 87 Year Old College Student Named Rose
The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know.
I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me
with a smile that lit up her entire being.
She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?”
I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a giant squeeze.
“Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?” I asked.
She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids…”
“No seriously,” I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
“I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!” she told me.
After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.
We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months, we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this “time machine”
as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.
Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I’ll never forget what she taught us.
She was introduced and stepped up to the podium.
As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, “I’m sorry I’m so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I’ll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.”
As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop
playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success.
1) You have to laugh and find humor every day.
2) You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.
We have so many people walking around who are dead and don’t even know it!
3) There is a huge difference between growing
older and growing up.
If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don’t do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old.
If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.
Anybody can grow older.
That doesn’t take any talent or ability.
The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change.
4) Have no regrets.
The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those
with regrets.”
She concluded her speech by courageously singing “The Rose.
She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.
At the year’s end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died
peacefully in her sleep.
Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it’s
never too late to be all you can possibly be.
When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they’ll really enjoy it!
These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS
OPTIONAL.
We make a Living by what we get,
We make a Life by what we give."
Canadian wildfires fueled by climate change fueled largely by fossil fuel companies for decades not doing what they can to meaningfully bring on the clean energy transition and instead lying to us
Just saw an ad for a mineral water producer claiming 'freshness in every drop' and it got me intrigued! But did they know the amount of water needed to recycle each plastic bottle they sell? #plasticwaste#plasticpollution#circulareconomy#recycling
“Twice this week, I have watched an elderly individual, fade into the busy life in which we all live. One man just needed Panadol for his wife but the shop assistant simply said it’s in aisle ‘6’. But he struggled to navigate the supermarket and as I watched him go in the wrong direction, I left all my groceries and took him where he needed to go.
Today, I watched an elderly man struggle in the heat, who had obviously had a fall with a huge scrape and blood on his leg. He walked past people in the cafe, while he slowly made his way to his car. Not one person stopped. Or looked. Or acknowledged him. I took him to his car and checked he was ok. He told me he had a fall and wasn’t sure how the air con worked in his car so he just didn’t use it. I sat with him, until his air con kicked in and heard him talk about the old frail body that he is in, that fails him now, every single day.
When you see an elderly person walking down the street, searching in the supermarket or struggling to their car, take a minute out of your busy schedule and ask them if they need a hand. Think about your grand parents and your parents and how pissed you would be if someone didn’t stop to help them. But more, think of them as you.
Once upon a time they were you. They were busy, they had work, they had children, they were able.... Today, they are just in an older body that is not going as fast as it used to and this busy life is confusing. They deserve our utmost respect and consideration. One day it will be you, it will be us. I wish more people gave a sh*t about them and acknowledged them for their admirable existence and geez I hope someday, not that far away, someone does it for me.”

Friends, we won Calgary-Glenmore by six votes in 2015. If you haven't voted yet, get to the polls. This election is so close, and every single vote matters. 🗳️
Urgent request to Twitter: My colleague is at home sick, febrile and confirmed COVID on RAT. Just developed over last couple days so missed the advanced voting option. She's trying to figure out how to vote today, if she can. She's in #yeg@ElectionsAB
In sixty seconds or less, here's why former PC cabinet minister @Doug13Ways is endorsing the NDP this election.

Danielle Smith broke the law on behalf of a man convicted of inciting violence against police.
There’s only ONE way to put a stop to all this: elect an Alberta NDP government.
So just to be clear…
The UCP candidate who compared trans kids to feces is still enjoying the support of the UCP Constituency Association, as well as apparently the party and Smith.
Despite media statements she was fully cut off.
The UCP lie.
#abpoli#ableg#cdnpoli
Very good points to consider, for every voter still unsure of which way to vote.
Remember - Danielle is a huge fan of Trump & company.
Do your research - don’t take any article, ad or debate point as gospel! Lots of ‘alternative facts’ being shared by Dani & her minions.
To Undecided Voters:
You have 6 days to read and do your own research.
Please don’t use ads as your truth checker. There are plenty of newspaper articles you can look up.
As you reflect on the years that the NDP were in power, don’t forget the recession and low oil prices. In four years, the NDP had access to less royalties than the UCP has had in one year.
Read articles that mention how the NDP built many schools and had the highest employment percentage across Canada (leading up to the last election). Remember, jobs were lost across Canada, throughout the recession. And the plummeting oil prices was the real culprit of oil and gas jobs that were lost.
As you reflect on the last 4 years, there are plenty of articles that will tell you that UCP dropping corporate taxes and hiking up personal taxes, didn’t actually create jobs.
UCP efforts to balance the budget, involved making deep cuts to health care and education and secretly de-indexing personal income taxes, while they were willing to pay $20B to have companies clean up oil wells.
Weigh out whether you feel safe electing a party that is being run by a fascist group (TBA). As you balance campaign promises; include recordings of Danielle Smith, the things she lobbied for, and essays she wrote etc. Consider Smith’s Sovereignty Act, her original ideas to privatize health care, her original idea to get rid of CPP and create an Alberta Pension plan, her original idea of getting rid of RCMP, her rewriting of Indigenous history in Canada, her Nazi references to vaccinated individuals, her support for fringe ideas, and how she has fought to protect people that broke Covid laws.
Please realize that UCP campaign promises might not mean anything, if the TBA controls what they want.
Look up information on candidates and MLAs running in the election. Consider whether you want to support the UCP, when they are keeping individuals that have made racist and discriminatory comments about others. Consider whether you want to elect a party that sends an unaccepting message to many Albertans.
Please consider lending your vote to the NDP. Consider voting for the consistent campaign promises of the Alberta NDP.
@truckdriverpleb Yes, she wants kids to be knowledgeable, empathetic and kind by them learning to be tolerant and inclusive. It’s a very good thing the world needs more of now!
True that! All that she’s done in the last few months was as an unelected Premier. Imagine the power trip she’ll be on if actually elected! 😲. Alberta definitely can’t afford another 4yrs of Danielle Smith. Lend your vote to Rachel Notley
#NDP2023#VoteNDP
A vote for ANY candidate from UCP is a vote for Danielle Smith. A vote for ANY candidate from UCP is a vote for more of what we’ve been through the last 4 years and worse.
Please retweet. A lot.
Andrew Friesen (@friesen_f ) is the hero we need right now.
A list of the lies told by Danielle Smith. Pure 🔥
Danielle Smith has an extremely loose relationship with the truth.
