There’s a functional reason for driving somewhere vs running a marathon, so that’s a false equivalency. The reason AI art bothers people so much is because we have a desire to believe that our creative mind is a byproduct of divine, or higher purpose. AI points the mirror back and demonstrates that art, creativity, and beauty can be quantified into measurable inputs/outputs which is uncomfortable for most people.
