In response to Western claims of “surprise”regarding #Azerbaijan’s attacks on #Artsakh, the @LemkinInstitute has created the following timeline, highlighting key events since the end of the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War and the warnings of escalation issued by the Lemkin Institute, @genocide_watch, and other NGOs. 1/10
@jensspahn
I am 34 y.o. Belarusian living in exile in Poland.
FIRST time in my life I will see a peaceful transition of power. To opposition. After democratic elections. With 73% turnout.
My message to you - value and protect your democracy. You can't even imagine what a miracle you have.
Rejecting its security obligation to #Armenia, Russia declared that it accepts Armenia's sovereign right to seek security outside the #CSTO. Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Provisional Administration, said today that the statements from #Yerevan about the possibility of leaving the CSTO are a matter of sovereign decision.
However, #Moscow hopes that "no interim administration" will destroy the ties between #Russia and Armenia.
"If, as some leaders of Armenia have stated, they are now disappointed with Russia and the CSTO, they will start looking for partners to strengthen their own security from the side - this is their #sovereign right, the right of the Armenian leadership. But I hope that the ties that exist between the #Russian and #Armenian peoples will not be destroyed by any temporary administration" #Lavrov said after the discussion at the Valdai club.
I want to remind Sergey Lavrov that the "temporary administration" of Russia has ruined Armenian-Russian relations. The Armenian and Russian peoples have neighborly relations; you can see happy-faced #Russians on the streets of Yerevan.
The problem is the policy of the Russian provisional government. Russia refused to protect Armenia's territorial integrity when Azerbaijan carried out more than a dozen medium and large-scale #military attacks against Armenia and occupied 150 square kilometers of territory.
Armenia applied both to Russia, based on bilateral agreements, and to the CSTO, hoping to receive military support in the format of that alliance. It's wonderful that the Russian Foreign Minister considers it the sovereign right of Armenia to leave the CSTO and look for partners outside the CSTO.
Hopefully, Lavrov will not get nervous when Armenia announces its decision to leave the CSTO. I think the optimal solution would be to review the Armenian-Russian military and #security relations and set realistic goals.
It's obvious that Russia will under no circumstances protect the territory of Armenia in case of a possible attack by Azerbaijan and #Turkey. Russia will not be able to supply arms to Armenia in the coming years either, because it needs arms itself.
The weapons produced by Russia are not competitive compared to Western weapons. Russia should also be freed de jure from its unfulfilled obligation towards Armenia.
Armenia should adopt a "non-aligned" status and develop bilateral relations with those states that will support Armenia's security and defense. Armenia shouldn't have any restrictions in terms of participating in military exercises and deploying partners' military bases in its territory.
I think the Russian interim administration shouldn't be afraid that its opponents will turn Armenia into a platform to fight against Russia. That's a false thesis. No government in Armenia will take such a destructive step.
Armenia's task is to strengthen its security, not to become a springboard against Russia. All those consultants who inspire such thoughts to the Russian authorities are deceiving them.
Armenia should deepen defense and security cooperation with the #USA, #France, #EU, and #India, which cannot be directed against Russia. This cooperation will aim to modernize Armenia's defense capabilities.
Armenia doesn't have such a geographical position, territory, or human resources that would one day pose a military threat to Russia.
Therefore, in the case of Armenia, leaving the CSTO will aim to make relations with Russia more sincere. Armenia should release Russia from such duties that it doesn't fulfill.
Armenia respects Russia's sovereign right to form a military-#political alliance with Azerbaijan and to sell billions of dollars worth of arms. This means that Russia should also understand that Armenia should implement deep security and defense cooperation with the USA, EU, France, and India.
After leaving the CSTO, I think Armenia should sign documents on security cooperation with the USA, France, EU, and India, and implement large-scale reforms in the Armenian Armed Forces. Hopefully, this neighborly decision of Lavrov will speed up the process of leaving the CSTO.
The #UN team that visited Nagorno Karabakh was shocked to find that 100,000 #Armenians had left in a hurry. However, the team didn't see any damaged hospitals, schools, residential houses, cultural or religious objects in #Karabakh. They also saw no damage to agricultural infrastructure, or dead animals, and didn't collect any facts on violence against civilians. In short, the UN team in #NagornoKarabakh did what Azerbaijan wanted the international community to hear from them.
Stefan Dujarric, the official representative of the United Nations, said:
"The agency records that #Armenia accuses #Azerbaijan of ethnic cleansing, an accusation that Baku denies. Azerbaijan, for its part, insists that "Armenians of the enclave were allowed to stay in the territory, and also assures that it doesn't intend to attack Armenia." The visit comes weeks later after #Azerbaijani troops took control of an enclave in their territory inhabited by ethnic Armenians, triggering a mass exodus of more than 100,000 Armenians.
Our partners were surprised by the haste with which the local population left their homes and the suffering that this ordeal probably caused them" the UN notes.
According to UN data, currently 50-1000 ethnic Armenians remain in Karabakh. "The team emphasizes the need to restore trust, adding that it will take time and effort on all sides. The UN plans to continue regularly visiting the region" said Dujarric.
It's sad to see how Azerbaijan is using an authoritative organization like the #UnitedNations to justify the ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh. Why was the UN group shocked to find Nagorno Karabakh empty of Armenians? Are they not aware that it has become impossible for Armenians to live in the Armenian settlements that came under the control of the armed forces of Azerbaijan?
#People were in danger of losing their lives and were forced to save their lives by leaving Nagorno Karabakh. Do they not know these basic facts in the UN that they decided to be shocked when they saw Nagorno Karabakh empty?
How many Armenians who moved from Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia did the UN talk to and collect their stories? Maybe it is necessary to find out from the forcibly displaced people why they left their thousand-year-old homeland, and then to be shocked by the haste of their departure?
Instead, the UN is announcing what the officials of Azerbaijan or the people who stayed on the spot dictated to them. And is it possible that these 50 Armenians feel a threat to their lives, that's why they don't describe the real dangers?
Doesn't the UN have facts about the murders, destructions, and kidnappings of the civilians of Nagorno Karabakh by Azerbaijan? Don't they follow the events of the funerals of people that are taking place in the settlements of Armenia these days?
It's obvious that Azerbaijan accompanied the UN group to those settlements and districts of Nagorno Karabakh where there were no destroyed buildings, looted houses of Armenians, or killed civilians. Azerbaijan kept the UN group under total control. That is the reason why, as the UN states, its access to the villages was limited.
The UN is no longer needed in Nagorno Karabakh. When the UN mission was needed, you did not enter Nagorno Karabakh. And you went to Karabakh at a time when no one felt the need for your presence, except for Azerbaijan, which carried out #EthnicCleansing.
Your visit to Nagorno Karabakh is late and unjustified. I would say that this and subsequent UN visits to Karabakh will become harmful, because Azerbaijan will refer to such fabricated reports and claim that there are no atrocities, that people left of their own free will, that their lives were not threatened, that Armenians can return and live in Nagorno Karabakh, that the Constitution of Azerbaijan guarantees the rights and security of Armenians.
Are you not aware that the Armenians were forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh, because the #war started on September 19? You didn't visit Nagorno Karabakh when Armenians still lived there, and it was necessary to prevent the war and ethnic cleansing in Azerbaijan.
The UN shouldn't discredit itself by becoming a tool in the hands of the dictatorial regime of Azerbaijan. The EU and the US should also refrain from sending a mission to Nagorno Karabakh, because the experience of the UN shows that Azerbaijan is trying to legitimize its ethnic cleansing in Nagorno Karabakh with these visits.
@textautomat dir viel Kraft !
