Amid marketplace tectonics in Africa's mobility and logistics sector, Bolt marks a decade in Kenya with a reported investment of over KES 19 billion (€130+ million) into the local market, expanding across 19 towns and connecting 8 million+ riders while enabling income opportunities for 170,000+ drivers and couriers.

The milestone highlights major structural shifts across Kenya's broader KES 130 billion (~US$1.2B) digital gig economy, which now sustains roughly 1.5 million workers:

Socioeconomic Mobility: Ride-hailing represents 20% of all national gig activity. According to the 2026 Bolt & @Ipsos report, 98% of ride-hailing respondents report an improved standard of living, with 53% using the platform as their primary income source (averaging KES 63,000 monthly for drivers and KES 56,000 for bodaboda riders)

Ecosystem Spillover: Beyond direct transportation, the growth of ride-hailing platforms has driven demand across adjacent industries, including vehicle financing, insurance, smartphone data usage, and automotive maintenance.

The Electric Mobility Pivot: Platform dynamics are also driving Kenya's green transport transition. Accelerated by driver incentive programs and fleet partnerships, 70% of all electric vehicles operating in Kenya now run on the platform, establishing app-based mobility as the chief engine of local EV adoption.
