There is a major concern about Data Centers that are using closed loop cooling systems that’s not being talked about

There are a lot of chemicals being put into the water used in these systems. That water has to be flushed out every couple years

Whistleblowers say that chemical water is being pushed into our streams and waterways and may have extremely limited cleaning requirements depending on state

“I'm getting whistleblowers on the inside saying that they're taking all that waste and they're just running it down into the sewers. They're wanting to go to more closed cooling systems, and in those closed cooling systems, you still are gonna be using chemicals. There's no regulations about every 2 years when you have to clean out a cooling closed system, where are you gonna throw all of those chemicals?”

It’s not a complete free for all, it depends on the states and general federal regulations. Discharges from cleaning, blowdown or maintenance are subject to environmental rules

There should be compliance reporting but whistleblowers are saying none of this is being followed, they’re saying it’s a “free for all” and the data centers are just planning on the chemicals being diluted as they flow down our waterways

California grows around 90% of the strawberries eaten in the United States, and before a single plant goes in the ground, the field is poisoned on purpose.

The soil is fumigated. Growers inject chemicals like chloropicrin into the earth to sterilise it, killing the fungi, the insects, the nematodes, the weeds, everything alive in it, so the strawberry can be grown in what is effectively dead ground held up by synthetic inputs. This is done to most of the state's strawberry acreage, every planting cycle. Chloropicrin was first used to choke men in the trenches in 1917. It is now pumped into the ground your dessert grows in, year after year.

The people who inject it and work its drift zone are farmworkers, many undocumented. California's own regulators rank these fumigants among the top causes of pesticide illness in the state, hitting the eyes, the lungs, the nerves. Drift near the fields has been bad enough to send schoolchildren home from class.

The strawberry is sold as the wholesome one. Antioxidants, heart health, plant-based superfood, the red thing in the clamshell twelve months a year, including the depth of winter when nothing in that hemisphere should be fruiting.

They sterilised the ground with a weapon from Ypres to grow you a heart-healthy berry, and the man holding the injector can't afford a doctor.

The crime they see: 15,415 litres of water to produce one kilogram of beef. Every campaign, every documentary, every leaflet through the door since about 2012.

The crime they do: not reading the paper.

The figure is real. It comes from Mekonnen and Hoekstra at the University of Twente, and it is careful, peer-reviewed work. What the campaigns strip out is that the same authors split that number into three parts, because the three parts are not the same thing at all.

Green water is rain. It falls on the grass. The cow eats the grass. For beef, green water is about 94 per cent of that headline.

Blue water is the stuff that matters. Rivers, lakes, aquifers. The stuff that gets pumped, metered, fought over in court, and does not come back.

So here is the blue water, in litres per kilogram, from the same authors, same method, same units.
