"History without tragedy does not exist, and knowledge is better and more wholesome than ignorance."
— H. G. Adler, quoted in Raul Hilberg's The Politics of Memory
"West bad" people be like: "Can't you see that Ukraine bombing industrial-sized warehouses and Russia double-tapping shopping malls is the same thing?!!!"
@hutchinson I'd be genuinely interested in a good faith answer to this contradiction.
It's hard to take these people seriously when they seem so fundamentally bored by Ukraine and just throw out stock phrases (usually Russian talking points) when occasionally forced to talk about it.
@stacycay@shutup_pod Just in absolute raptures watching this. I used to live in Russia and you'd be surprised by how many people like that end up there, it's totally believable.
Hope you two do more of these together, and thank you for supporting Ukraine! 🩷
Last night, russian missile attack on Kyiv killed 15 people in their homes and beds.
In the video, an elderly woman asks rescuers if her grandson could still be alive inside the ruined apartment.
The clip ends with his body is carried out of the wreckage as she screams in agony.
@Kurt_lange_dk Let’s roleplay a hypothetical scenario. You are a negotiator at Russia-Ukraine peace talks. Russia demands complete surrender of 4 Ukrainian regions, even those it’s never controlled, as a precondition for any talks to begin, as it has since 2022. Ukraine refuses. Your move?
Will Stancil put it well in the election: Trump's permanent advantage is that he gets to run as clown president of clown world, while Democrats have to talk about their healthcare plans.
@geogvma My favorite is the "Don't YOU as an AMERICAN feel shame!?" but they can't conceive of anyone saying "Yes, I'm ashamed and think we should face consequences" because they think everyone is as morally bankrupt as they are and want to rejoice in rejecting any sense of responsibility
@Pravonapadenie@_carlbeijer It's easy for Carl to pretend life is the same everywhere when he won't ever have to bribe paramedics not to lose/damage grandma's body on the way to the morgue. And that's just normal middle class Russian life, not brutal occupation.
Every single person who, with a condescending sneer, tells you that Ukraine has to “negotiate” away its land and people for “peace” is endorsing everything described here, and even worse: systematic rape, torture, and murder: cultural genocide.
@geogvma@BentleysAsshole@realPetrosman These people, man. 'I care so much about the plight of Russians that as Russia merges and downsizes its hospitals so it can bomb Ukrainian civilians I will spend my time being highly entertained by western Putinists and expressing my concerns about problematic nafo accounts'
@biggestjoel@The_Davos_Man@fingerlickins As a longtime fan of your work, this is nice to hear. Having been personally impacted by Russia's war, it's hard to take Matt seriously on the topic of genocide when he regularly boosts/defends Russia apologists. Nothing wrong with the interview, but the host is a hypocrite.
@The_Davos_Man She hasn't. She's a pragmatic lib and criticized the use of 'zionist' as a pejorative for anyone not calling for the total destruction of Israel, arguing that doing so won't help Palestinians, which is supposedly (?) the left's goal. So of course these weirdos start frothing.
@geogvma To live/have lived in Russia and still do this is insane. Not only do they have to know they're lying, it's also wildly insulting to the Russians they claim to care about/understand so well.
@Gyarke@HasanPRProp@Gryffix Leftists will align themselves entirely with the Russian perspective on the war and spend 4+years demanding Ukraine be abandoned to genocide (for peace!), but since they add "hey but Putin is a bad guy" we're supposed to believe they care about Ukrainians
@ryangrim Russia bombed a maternity hospital in Odesa a few hours ago but of course we can count on western leftists to take a break from defending "crimea river hasan" in order to lie about Ukraine. Because you all care so much about innocent Ukrainians, right?
