@firstadopter I think I haven’t agreed with a Joanna Stern take on tech in over a decade so I’ll ignore it, and also hearing the exact opposite from others on those two points (FaceTime quality is excellent and doesn’t get as hot as the 18 Pro)
@firstadopter Neoclouds have to do long term contracts with hyperscalers in order to secure loans against that revenue stream. Elon has the cash, so he sells at spot which is way higher
@elidourado@KelseyTuoc But like your Tesla example, doesn’t this give even more advantage to a nimble entrant to a market who is fast to adopt AI and move more swiftly to take margin from the incumbents? People’s brand loyalty is quickly eroded by a Really Good Deal
@antoniogm This is really good and smart. But what I think saves the US ultimately is the speed at which we pivot and innovate, and the red states (Florida, Texas, Georgia, Ohio) are still building. The coasts are indistinguishable from Europe, true, but we’ve got fifty states
The public sector unions (for state and local governments in the US) will absolutely surface awareness of these trends and will use it to justify adding FTEs, fully pensionable of course. Imagine if the Luddites had had a union and the factory owners were paying with someone else’s money
You’re right but this is simply impossible for local govt in the US. Adoption of AI has been glacial for even routine work and something like this will be seen as anti-democratic — how dare you not respond to citizens’ requests and demands with anything other than bespoke artisanal human work? Also add dominant public sector unions who will see this as a solid justification to increase staff …
@9to5mac@iryantldr Those of us who aren’t 23 years old remember all of this from the iPhone 4, and 5, and 6, and 6S launches when the iPhone was supply constrained constantly. Huge problem. Massive. How will they ever recover? 🙄
