Foreign Secretary @YvetteCooperMP met @FaisalbinFarhan in London today.
The UK and Saudi Arabia are working closely on regional security – reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and deepening defence, investment and growth ties.
They also discussed our long-standing cultural partnership through @TurqMountainSA.
Our advocacy manager in #Afghanistan, told @LBC about the thousands of Afghans returning from Pakistan:
"When they get here, they face the questions of where they are going to go, where they are going to sleep.. and how on earth they’ll survive in this war-torn country."

The 28 million Afghans in urgent need of aid are increasingly neglected.
We urgently need political and human rights breakthroughs in Afghanistan for women; greater international diplomatic engagement; and donors to resume large scale aid according to humanitarian principles.
There are TOO FEW safe and DIGNIFIED routes available to seek #asylum in the UK for people fleeing persecution and war.
Here’s why the UK asylum bill in its current form is deeply problematic.
THREAD
I tell the responsible ministers in Afghanistan that NRC is ready to restart our aid operations tomorrow. But we can only do so when we gain unimpeded access for both our female and male staff members to reach all the affected population in need.
As just said on @TOLOnews Afghanistan, NRC will resume work immediately for 700.00 Afghans when we can do so with female & male staff. We have, and will, follow all Afghan traditional values regarding dress, work place and travel. But no group can or should work with males only.
The Taliban ban on our female staff forces NRC to suspend humanitarian operations across Afghanistan. We cannot work without our 470 female Afghan colleagues. Millions will suffer due to the TB edict. Noone should work with male staff only. It would be a horrible precedent.
“We are shocked by reports from our aid workers on the ground of attacks across Ukraine, including in Kyiv, Lviv, Ternopil and Dnipro. Thousands of civilians were on their way to work and school during the attacks, leading to injuries and loss of life». https://t.co/OtniDmZfcI
When the war in #Ukraine escalated, many vulnerable older people were rescued from bomb shelters & homes.
This week, we're distributing aid to displaced older persons in retirement homes & hospices near Kyiv:
- 536 monthly food parcels
- 1,922 hygiene kits
- 46 cleaning kits
Volunteers across Europe are way ahead of governments in welcoming Ukrainian refugees.
Why has there still not been a European summit where leaders agree responsibility sharing for receiving refugees, aiding in Ukraine and joint diplomacy for cease-fire? https://t.co/6SCwaSU2Zv
with items, they buy bulk and in local currency so get more for their money and they support the local community who are supporting the refugees. It all so relieves the storing and sorting pressures. I don't want to say this as people are just being lovely and it is wonderful 2/3
Sorry to bang on but I really don't want your kindness to go to waste. Sending food and meds across EU is highly complex even for Experts and nigh on impossible for hugely mixed loads of generous donated items. It is better to donate to @DECappeal so they coordinate the need 1/3
NRC have been in Ukraine since 2014, and we have first hand experience of the impact that conflict has had on the people and would have again: https://t.co/o0J5MI2OES
Today I visited our #girls classes for #conflict-#displaced families & communities hosting them in Sar-e Pul in north #Afghanistan 🇦🇫, which we resumed last week. The future still uncertain.
Odds were always stacked against Afghan #girls, & we need to stand by them, all of them.
