Meharry received an $175M endowment from @BloombergDotOrg! This monumental donation speaks volumes about our nearly 150-year impact in health care.

What a farce #cop29 is turning into. The hosts haven’t bothered to report greenhouse gas emissions for 6 years and they seem to be rising fast. As for @bp_plc, you just know these are weasel words, “any exceedances of applicable air quality…” https://t.co/jTAFnxBXl8
"Treatment of HIV is an astonishing success story...Communities and their health workers explain why #HIV treatment works so much better than treatments for many chronic diseases in rich countries...Their ability to reach even the hardest to reach areas, means they build trust and foster community resilience." We can't afford to become distracted or complacement as #AIDS24 ends https://t.co/ADSMYiQXGq
It's good to recognise a mistake and try something else. That's what @MSF did when it decided to end its access campaign. Let's applaud them. #healthcareafrica#health https://t.co/PY6bcsIxoq
Paying based on outcomes for many medicines and vaccines seems inevitable, says a panel at #HLTH Europe. Now, the admin burden is high and the outcomes are often too far away to be a basis for price setting, but genAI predictions should fix much of that
1 in every 4 older patients is hospitalised because of problems from medicines interaction. Israeli HMO has cut that by 24% and halved length of hospital stay using AI. At #HLTH Europe
Reimbursement for digital health products happens in similar but slightly different ways throughout Europe, we heard from a panel of government evaluators at #HLTH Europe. The EU won't be competitive until we have a union-wide reimbursement framework for all treatments
No-one should pay for fertility treatment says @AlsalimNader at #HLTH Europe. Any payment should be for results. “Dollar per birth and time to birth” are the only valid measures for fertility clinics, he thinks
It’s beginning. Rational use of health workers will reduce the bargaining ability of primary care doctors. One heckled the Prime Minister now another has taken to X. Wait until those nurses get AI…
I’m simply horrified to see @NHSEngland now literally breaking the law in how it misrepresents physician associates & other allied health professional - who are NOT doctors - to the public.

#Solar and #wind power, electric vehicles are here. Next is heat-based #batteries for plants and factories.
Electro-thermal installations, made of rocks, bricks and other materials heated with an electric coil, aim to solve one of the energy transition’s largest and least talked-about problems.
Delivering high temperatures — anything from 100 to 1,500 degrees accounts for about a quarter of current fossil fuel consumption globally - 20% of carbon emissions.
Burning hydrogen or 'capturing' carbon, are by definition more expensive than existing gas-fired boilers.
Electro-thermal batteries can heat up bricks using the cheapest six hours of electricity, soak up the midday glut in southern European solar power, or a midnight excess of northern European wind - then discharge heat over the next 18 hours.
That would cut 30 to 40% cost of electricity from wholesale prices. As more renewables enter the mix, midday prices would fall to zero or even negative.

"The Aging Elephant in the Room" by @markcha on @medikalife.
The world’s population is aging - the number of Chinese and Koreans will halve; Nigeria become the 2nd most populous country.
What's the #publichealth impact? #pophealth https://t.co/wHfEsyyKgS
Is the impact of ESG investors fading? Apparently not: the favoured bank of Mexican drug cartels has just been forced to come clean about its role in enabling fossil fuel production and burning #HSBC#GreenEnergy

What do you do when troublesome shareholders demand less greenwashing; more action on the rapid shift to renewables? You sue them, obviously. The message is clear: don't buy ExxonMobil stock unless you're ready to give up any say in its running(giftlink)

@SebWrites Half the American money for HIV in one West African country never actually leaves the Washington DC-based group administering it. By contrast, there are really efficient, self-sustaining African models of health care delivering European results at a fraction of the European cost
I don’t support her but, on this, she’s right. Italy will invest in education, health, exports and infrastructure in Africa to curb migration out. Avoid European, US or African intermediaries siphoning off the cash and it will help Africans thrive at home https://t.co/wrS1h33nC0
“If you want parents to vaccinate their children, make it accessible, free and easy, so it can fit within their daily commitments... And that’s true whether it’s Uganda, Pakistan, Scotland or England”. @devisridhar is right: logistics, not ideology https://t.co/jMBm8AjRF4
