#OnThisDay in 1864 the #DaleDykeDam collapsed resulting in the #GreatSheffieldFlood. Believed to be caused by a crack in the embankment.
It released around 3million m3 of flood water through the #PeakDistrict & #Sheffield.
Sadly it resulted in 250 deaths & destroyed 600 homes.

Today on a socially distanced confined spaces course. Training on entering #confinedspaces is essential on inspecting #reservoirs and has to be retaken every 3 years! Reservoirs have tunnels that need to be inspected as part of S12 and S10 Inspections using breathing apparatus.
Today I attended the S10 #reservoir Inspections at #Kilnhurst flood storage reservoirs. These independent inspections are carried out every 10 years. @EnvAgencyYNE have done an excellent job maintaining these reservoirs and we received no safety recommendations!
