Through a case study, we find that #Rust programmers indeed need not be fearful when expressing easy parallelism, but when parallelism gets hard (e.g., irregular run-time varying data dependences) #Rust is not inherently easier to use than its predecessors like C++.
Proud advisor moment 2: Javad Abdi convocated in Toronto as I presented his work at #spaa2024 (his choice!) Javad's work interrogates the #Rust programming language claim of fearless concurrency.

Proud advisor moment: Guozheng Zhang presented at #spaa2024. Ordered algorithms are hard to scale on manycores, but several priority schedulers have been proposed. We introduce a taxonomy to position past schedulers and explore a new design point: the MBQ https://t.co/XaG5Wq5P1K
The ECE department @UofT is recruiting tenure-stream assistant professors in computer engineering, quantum technologies, and energy. The faculty are outstanding. The city is amazing. The sunsets are pretty. Even the ice is pretty. Come join us @ECEUofT! https://t.co/W7KFmjcQCd
We (cc @carolinetrippel) congratulate the graduate and undergraduate finalists in @TheOfficialACM Student Research Competition at MICRO 2023! Thank you to all participants for submitting excellent work and to the Selection and Judging Committees for your service.
Computer architecture undergrads and graduate students, please submit your work to the ACM Student Research Competition at MICRO 2023 in Toronto by Aug. 31! (Submission site coming shortly). Please reach out with any questions. @MicroArchConf@ACMSIGMICRO https://t.co/4sv70UaneQ
The industry shift to chiplets lowers cost but can hurt performance. We find that the performance penalty of chiplets varies wildly across parallel applications (up to almost 2x slowdown) and correlates with invalidation intensity: INV msgs/instr. See more in our paper!

Please sign and share this petition. Let's tell the Government of Canada that Canadians of 2023 deem research as important a part of the economy as the Canadians of 2003. A thread on funding stagnation. (1/n)

Appendix 1: This 50% increase only accounts for inflation, and clearly is inadequate for the housing affordability crisis. We need further action on this.
