My cash flow after the expenses for everything that gives me and my family a very comfortable lifestyle is only $3!! I must not have a comfortable lifestyle!
I really enjoy posts like this because they make me feel like a financial genius. I am able to maintain approximately the same lifestyle with substantially less household income.
Ford’s new electric truck can store so much power in its batteries that, in a blackout, it can supply a house’s normal power usage for three days! Its a technology of resilience. @yayitsrob

It’s incredible that more than a year into the pandemic many news organizations still struggle to write headlines about Covid studies that at all reflect their actual findings.
@lheal@akfirefly76 @Andy_Bell_73 @anthonyLfisher Plus, testing strategies aren't useless. Picking up on context clues, ruling out known falsehoods to improve your odds, and knowing determining when to cut your losses on a problem in order to maximize net outcome have very real-world applications.
@JesseJenkins@ERCOT_ISO Haven't read the report yet, but this makes it seem like even though they have the data for the forecasted wind/solar power, they elected to not use that to characterize wind/solar outages and instead use nameplate (with this added 'note')
@MostePotenteTx@rainygay1@florianederer@Noahpinion And these smaller firms
1) typically grow out of university research projects and/or DARPA/NIH programs
2) typically acctract private investment AFTER receiving public research grants.
@MostePotenteTx@rainygay1@florianederer@Noahpinion Most of what big pharma spends on r&d isnt on new innovative drugs/therapies (like mRNA vaccs). Smaller cos generate the most new products https://t.co/MBwd7FzJgG
@MostePotenteTx@rainygay1@florianederer@Noahpinion Without "work" from biotech? None. But most of the financial risk is underwritten by public financing. If you work on an invention and I pay you to do it and it doesnt work out, you've been paid the whole time but I can't get my money back.
@brush701@florianederer @ProfTGilbert Makes you wonder what would have happened if covid hadn’t happened, and they released a mRNA vaccine? Because even before the warp speed money went their way, Moderna was heavily funded through a darpa program. So it’s not like the de-risking was only due to the pandemic.
@erikbryn@trungly_econ@ModeledBehavior Don't forget the fact that DARPA has been funding mrna for easy longer than just warp speed https://t.co/nXPMUQMpfe
I love everything @amandamull writes - she cracks me up and also dials me into subjects that more sober treatments would send me to dream land. This is especially great.
