@B7849290511965B@RafHM Agreed. It would be a hard sell even if all the (allegedly) right wing parties were on the same ideological page with what needs to happen, and all were trustworthy and upstanding “country first” individuals … but that’s not the situation. Hard to unite around that
@Blibbledurble@PolitlcsUK A chief difficulty (one of many) is vast swathes of parents and adults don’t model good self control or behavioural regulation over devices to kids. Pointless banning social media (just one aspect) if all kids see adults with zero self control over devices
@markcooperjones@jayforeman We LOVE watching your videos, imagine our surprise when we spot scenes 50m from our house in your last video!
Our daughter Isla recreated the Nottingham shots for you. Thanks for all your content!
@Nina_Power_ 100%. Actually making things (eg woodwork, DIY) provides a deeply grounding insight into how hard it is to make something physical, & to a high level. The modern world of spreadsheets/meetings puts a false veneer over how physical the real world is
@Perryman93@AaronBastani@thatpoliticsguy Sorry to hear that. Nurseries in our area are 2-2.5x what they were when our daughter went. There's ways to make things more manageable, but the thresholds bite in weird nonsensical ways.
@AaronBastani@thatpoliticsguy The free hours are only a marginal subsidy, and depending on age doesn’t cover 2nd child up. The 100k is a hell of a cliff edge for families.
Even that £2500 a month for 2 kids in full time nursery is more mid-to-low estimate, esp in cities
@ZubyMusic True. Most people’s habits and decisions are much more deeply ingrained than a merely intellectual conviction. Simply showing them the evidence and a strong argument to the truth is worth trying, but rarely sufficient
@AlinaV_Psy@DanielPriestley@garyseconomics 100%. So many people fall for rhetoric, sophistry and emotional “deck stacking” abstract examples to “win” arguments.
It’s easier than engaging in substantive evidence based discussions. Also avoids reaching a conclusion that you may not like/feel bad about
@j_bambrick Solid diet and sufficient exercise (eg zone 2 cardio for metabolic health, weight training for muscle retention, yoga or other for mobility/balance/flexibility), but again, most people focus on the daytime habit and not enough on the sleep habit.
@j_bambrick Often people rush to complexity before they address the simple things. Sleep routine (eg 7-9h, same time to bed and to rise every day) + sleep hygiene (Screens, not drinking/eating too close to bedtime) are the biggest failings in the modern era.
@drsimonegold Thalidomide. It was a morning sickness medicine that the authorities said was safe, but babies were born with horrific birth defects. Pulled from market, but damage done.
Just cos an “authority” says it’s safe and effective doesn’t mean it is.
