The “natural branches” are the ethnic Jews, the original recipients of God’s covenant through the Law and the Prophets. Some of these branches were “broken off” (Romans 11:17) due to unbelief in Christ, meaning that those Jews who rejected the Messiah were temporarily separated from the covenant community.

However, Paul emphasizes God’s faithfulness to Israel, noting that these branches can be grafted back in through faith (Romans 11:23), reflecting the hope for Jewish conversion to Christ.

This means that the original covenant has been permanently altered so to use it today to justify support for a physical state of Israel is inappropriate and manipulation of peoples beliefs to get unconditional support for a foreign government.
