@AlanGolotto@RayThomas_1@LukeCostin I have worked with literally thousands of journalists in the past 47 years but when it comes to knowledge, accuracy and passion for her subject Caryl was among the very best. RIP.
@TrentEd1 Also won on Chief De Beers and a stack of good horses. Those were the days we checked apprentices feet to see how big they were going to get. Allan and David Murphy were two who unfortunately proved the big foot theory correct. Both outstanding young riders.
Glad to see Allan Russell has joined Chris Munce stable. Still remember going to Des McGee’s stable to do a story on him when he was a young apprentice. He was so small I could just see him over a horse stall door. I rate him in best five apprentice riders I have seen.
Baby sitting my grand kids today with races on in the background. I have one question. Does anyone actually take $1.40 about a horse at Mackay or Scone on a Tuesday?
@AlanGolotto@placepunter I am with a few old heads here they remember it well and especially Flying Ace who really was a Group horse against a mob of walkers that day. They said to tell you if they had anything left they would send you a belated present.
@AlanGolotto@placepunter Yep. Saw him win at Eagle Farm one day and the official margin was 12 lenghs. A couple of dad’s old head mates reckoned it was a furlong. Nearly as far as Flying Ace won by at Albion Park when you won on him.
@AlanGolotto@placepunter Not Larry Olsen. He was based in Toowoomba Was main rider for Jim Atkins for a while but also rode for Tails original trainer Hiram Philp.
@HowardWalter1 It was back in 1982 and a complete farce. But the good part was how it got picked up. Which would take three pages to explain. Maybe I will get Alan Thomas to tell it on his new podcast.
A brain does funny things as you get old. At lunch talking about ring ins and some racing greats couldn’t remember the one at Doomben before Fine Cotton. Three hours later bringing my ailing wife soup it leapt into my mind. I yelled “Mannasong!” She thought I’d finally lost it.🤓
Either it is the worst flu season ever or the more likely I am too boring to drive with. But tried six people to get a lift to Gold Coast tomorrow and all out with flu. Lucky No 7 Dave Salmon is made of tougher stuff or I would be hitch hiking.
You have to laugh. Non punting mate asked me for some rough tips at EF. Rang this morning bagging me for not tipping a winner. Pointed out the tips Tisani Magic,Tisani Tomso and Erringhi Spring were placed and $1 Each way was a $10 profit. But he asked what is Each way🤦♂️
