Whatever your stance on this yet another @dhh drama, one little detail is completely off debate:

He badly (!) failed to adhere to the stoic values he likes to taunt so much.

Getting offended and feeling attacked by such a short email scores all negatives in the stoic playbook.

But in the end, one must separate the brilliant “benevolent dictator” who drove Rails to a great history from the childish and utterly narcissistic man he ultimately is.

I hope he can realize how badly he failed his own philosophy. And maybe, who knows, learn/grow from it.

I throw this punch with much sadness.

I truly appreciate his contribution to the web, both from when he envisioned Rails, almost two decades ago, and more recently when he crusade against the insufferable JavaScript schizophrenia.

@Mastapegs I have the unpopular opinion that the JS frontend scene is detrimental for a good chunk of new web developers.

A bunch of simple native stuff that the ecosystem as a whole tries to reinvent just because reasons.

Devs should almost always learn Web 1.0 before anything.

@deanpcmad @robisenberg absolutely, those are exactly the two services I stopped “caring about” since learning Docker.

this also gives me confidence to soon explore other services like memcached, elasticsearch, etc.

I’ve been pretty resistant to Docker for the past few years, but the book “Docker for Rails Developers” made it easy to change my mind.

I’m sold, can’t see myself starting any new project without docker-compose in my development environment.

@PragTob Plenty of great Ruby devs all over the world.

Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, etc. They all provide “easy hires”: talented people on weaker currencies.

It’s only a problem if you restrict yourself to hiring only Americans or people living in the USA. Expand and so pain goes away.
