Someone is offering a $100k bounty "on a typical VC vesting schedule" to anyone who introduces them to their future partner, and their write-up on vesting and potential outcomes is literally more clear than any startup equity offer letter I've ever seen lol
So sad to have lost @KeerthiVedantam from our team. She's an energetic, curious, agile and reliable reporter who brought so many fresh story ideas and angles to our coverage. Hire her while you have the chance!
Evan Gershkovich, in a glass cage, in a Moscow courtroom, surrounded by hooded guards. Talk about journalistic cool under pressure. I am AWED by his fortitude.
RIP @crazybob - you were generous to me and so many others, an important part of tech and you brought your infectious energy everywhere. For your kids and family, I hope justice prevails here. 💔
So sad to hear of @crazybob’s untimely passing. I first met him in summer 2006 — he didn’t care that I was only 14 and we talked tech / geeked out about programming. We remained connected over the years and he was an early supporter of Figma. It’s so hard to believe he is gone.
Today marks a week since Russia detained my friend and colleague Evan Gershkovich.
Make no mistake: Evan is being held hostage. He is an accredited reporter who covered Russia and its people with compassion and rigor. He should be freed. #FreeEvan

@emollick I don't understand the implied magnitude of this? These exams are basically topic related trivia questions - wouldn't anyone with the ability to instantly look up the answers on the internet pass with flying colors?
Makes you really think about @elonmusk's @neuralink thesis...
2/ Biotech startups may feel this especially acutely.
“There aren’t binders that a giant bank inherits that tell you step-by-step how to support a radical lifesaving biotech company," one source tells @KeerthiVedantam

1/ In the short-term, #SVB customers will mostly be OK, given that depositors have been made whole. But long term, its absence will leave a giant hole in the startup world that other banks will struggle to fill. https://t.co/XKsFXCA1lu
@petersterne Me neither, to be honest! This morning I was drinking my coffee, thinking, well, if something happens with SVB it won't be til 4pm this afternoon ...
Having flashbacks to the several local bank failures I covered as a young reporter during the financial crisis. But SVB is very different. Hard to wrap one's head around the coming fallout.
$SIVB closure & receivership is going to have a massive impact on the tech ecosystem. SVB was not just a dominant player in tech but were highly integrated in some nontraditional ways. A few things we'll see in the coming days / weeks...
We're going to start hearing a lot of stories about startups who can't make payroll, VC firms that can't send checks, vendors that can't be paid ...
Really unfortunate situation that seems to stem at least in part from bad communication that fueled a panicked bank run.
More startups have also been relying on venture debt as VC fundraising dries up. Not that much data on that in Crunchbase since debt deals aren't always announced, but we find SVB participated in at least $5.7B in funding deals last year, most of those venture debt.
