Western Reef Heron - Absolutely awesome bird and 1st for Britain & Ireland. Not often there’s such a good bird on your doorstep
Showed well whilst it was following the shoreline this morning 😍
A few sharp thundery showers yesterday but most pass the reserve by, but with the big skies here at Elmley it’s a great place for storm watching. This storm was north over the Essex coast, lots of lightning and awesome cloud formation.
Finding this dark morph Honey Buzzard in a garden in Levenwick back on 25/05 was a bit of a surprise, a stunning bird to see up close! It was sporting some serious tail damage and taking a battering from the local Hoodies.🤞it reached its destination.
An excellent day, with the main highlight being the first Observatory record of Greenish Warbler since 1995 with a male showing and singing well in the Trapping Area for most of the day. Click this link to listen to nearly seven minutes of songs and calls: https://t.co/MSB8vhwpxX
There has been a strong showing of wood sandpipers at Cley, with 4-6 birds daily from late April to mid May. The reflections from a nearby rape field caught my eye with this bird one evening
‘Marsh Harrier male, Arnold’s Marsh’
acrylic, 44 x 34 cms.
A male Marsh Harrier flies over Arnold’s Marsh, mobbed by some of the resident Avocets and Lapwings. The Marsh lies between the villages of Cley-next-the Sea and Salthouse on the North Norfolk coast.
A magical morning at Sumburgh Head, Shetland. Super views of a mobile and vocal Red-throated Pipit found by Roger Riddington and as we watched it, a look out to sea revealed a fabulous pod of Risso's Dolphins!
Aquatic Warblers are back to Biebrza Marshes!
As it's dry, the birds gather in damp spots; here, this male was singing alongside eleven (!) others in a small patch of sedge marsh (on the area of < than a square km). I visit this site regularly & they were never so abundant there.
Savi’sWarbler reeling at first light this morning at Hjalstaviken in Sweden. Stunning, point blank views. This bird sang all night without stopping, an incredible feat of physical endurance…
