Czech National Bank data shows its #gold reserves increased by 1.7 tonnes in July, another step closer to its 100 tonne target. YTD net purchases total 12 tonnes, with gold holdings now 84 tonnes.
More than 15% of global primary copper, about 3.6 million tonnes a year, depends on sulphuric acid to process ore into metal.
A new GEM Mining Consulting study finds a 90-day acid disruption could expose roughly 111,000 tonnes of copper production, and a year-long disruption about 947,000 tonnes.
Roughly half of seaborne sulphur trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz. China halted acid exports in May.
"The next mining supply shock may start in a reagent tank, a furnace, a port, a laboratory or an equipment order book," GEM said. "The orebody matters, but so do the systems that convert it into qualified, continuous supply."
