Having a single school language "medium" is an outdated concept. It is an unnecessary roadblock on the kids being able to gather all the knowledge available. It is amazing how nobody even questions the necessity of having a "medium" for a school. Why is it needed?? Seriously..
Does English medium mean BETTER quality education?
Let’s explore an alternative Kannada medium school in Mysuru that challenges this idea!
💡 Fun fact: there is absolutely NO homework given in this school!
This is a fantastic story of how modern cough medicine has its roots in ancient Ayurveda. But how many of us know this?
It begins with Vasaka. An Ayurvedic plant whose leaves were used for chest complaints long before ambroxol reached the pharmacy shelf.
In Germany, the plant has a name that tells you where it came from: "Indisches Lungenkraut". Indian lung herb.
But before we get to the German medicine, look at Calcutta in 1925.
R. N. Chopra and S. Ghosh, at the School of Tropical Medicine, were studying this plant. Their paper recorded its use in Ayurvedic preparations, examined its chemistry and described 3 years of clinical experience with a leaf extract.
The line I have highlighted in the attached page reads:
"In chronic bronchitis the cough is relieved, the sputum is liquefied so that it is brought up more easily."
100 years ago, Indian researchers were putting a familiar Ayurvedic remedy through chemical and clinical investigation. They recorded the limits too. Asthma relief was "not very marked". Against tuberculosis itself, the extract was "absolutely useless".
The leaves contained an alkaloid called vasicine. And here comes the connection many of us never hear about.
Bromhexine, a modern cough medicine, is chemically related to vasicine. When the body processes bromhexine, it produces another active compound: ambroxol.
Ambroxol was discovered at Dr. Karl Thomae, a Boehringer Ingelheim company. It was 1st marketed in 1979.
The connection to Ayurveda is not something we have to squeeze out of a resemblance. T. Weiser's pharmacology review on ambroxol states it directly:
"Its history can be traced, however, to ayurvedic medicine in ancient India."
An Indian respiratory remedy. A Calcutta investigation you can still read. And a connection acknowledged in the scientific history of a German medicine.
P.S. Sputum is the mucus we cough up.

@Fintech03 Excellent post. I read about this 10 yrs ago but can't find the ref now. Pls share.
If you use this at the beginning of a cold, it will never result in fever. Vasaka based formulations and bromhexine/ambroxol based ones can be used interchangeably and have always worked for us
@Padmaja_Yatra This was the way in my grandfather's house. No entering kitchen area, no touching or handing over things to mom/grandma/great grand mother during morning puja and cooking.. until lunch is done. If by mistake there is any form of contact, scolding for us and again bath for them..
No thank you. I dont need to see ranbir Kapoor and sai pallavi to ruin Ramayana for me. Have seen the best version by Kalakshetra. The ever green 6 part Valmiki ramayana coreographed by Smt Rukmini Devi Arundale.
Several brilliant artists portraying Shri Rama, sita devi and almost all characters decade after decade.
@i_am_meetshah@yashpresso@Fintech03 So the same ingredient is fine to eat as much as you like but govt will not allow it in a medicine? All medicines have inactive ingredients. They are allowed. Why then are safe & mildly beneficial ingredients not allowed? This is a technical subject.. not a social media topic
@yashpresso@i_am_meetshah@Fintech03 Yeah.. please stop using coconut oil and probiotic yogurt. Please stop eating curd. No one is going to prove these to you..
@i_am_meetshah@Fintech03 It's silly.. should they prove effectiveness of coconut oil in hair before selling it.. or use of probiotics before selling them in yogurt? You can say "don't make crazy claim" but banning use of combinations of ingredients is basically stopping customers from benefits.
@Fintech03 For generally accepted as safe ingredients, with widespread usage like aloevera, tea tree oil.. requiring proof of effectiveness = killing the product. If the benefit is mild but positive, the company will be chasing its tail to prove it. Regulations should have common sense
@amargov@iitbombay 20-50microns lithography is possible using just commercial printers for just cost of a lamp and photoresist. 1 - 5 micron is possible with good commercial printers and lenses. It is not difficult.. a good ug project. Hope these guys raise some money and get to below 100 microns
