The project was given to IGSR, a private company. From the same company he received ₹24.98 lakh as consultancy fees as researcher and consultant.

WELL DONE: Drmatic Rescue of Elephant Calf in Gajaldoba

In a dramatic rescue, a 3-4-day-old elephant calf swept away by the strong currents of the Teesta River was rescued by local fishermen and reunited with its mother after nearly two hours of efforts.

The calf was separated from its mother while crossing the river and was swept downstream from the upper section of the Teesta Barrage. After spotting the helpless calf struggling in the current, fishermen Ajay Das, Rajesh Das, Gopal Das, Mittu Das and Bishwanath Das risked their lives to pull it from the water and bring it safely to a river island.

Forest personnel from the Baikunthapur Forest Division soon joined the rescue operation and began efforts to locate the mother.

The calf continued calling for its mother, prompting an emotional search. After nearly two hours, the rescue team successfully reunited the newborn with its mother in the Teesta’s river-island area at Gajoldoba.

The rescue has been hailed locally as a heartwarming example of compassion and wildlife conservation.

Gwalior - A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour after he forced her onto his motorcycle while she was on her way to coaching class, police said. According to the FIR, the incident took place on September 19 at around 6 pm. The student was heading to coaching when her neighbour, identified as Balveer, approached her on a bike. He allegedly threatened to make photos and videos of her go viral if she did not accompany him. He then took her to a flat in Shruti Apartment, where he sexually assaulted her. After the assault, Balveer threatened to kill her father and uncle if she told anyone about the incident. He later dropped her outside the coaching centre. The frightened girl returned home and narrated the incident to her parents. They then went to the police station and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case against the accused under sections related to rape and the SC/ST Act, and took him into custody.

The BJP in Bihar must paint its face black.

On one hand, a teenage boy and girl were allegedly harassed and molested by thugs in Jamui. And now, young girls are crying in Nawada, Bihar because their school principal peeks into the washroom and touches them inappropriately.

This is an utterly unacceptable standard of safety and dignity for women and girls - in Bihar or anywhere in India.

The Bihar government must raise the standards of policing, accountability and basic social order. If it cannot ensure that girls walk on the streets and use a school washroom without fear, then it should walk out in shame.
