You can't sell an on-call product that only works some of the time.
That's why we've invested heavily in o11y, building a strategy that works for our org and weaving that into how we use our tools.
If you want to know how we did it @martyhambert has written a great post 🧵
I'm sure you've all been wondering: what is worse than slicing through the power cable of the hedge trimmer you borrowed from your friend?
Turns out it's doing it once, buying them a new trimmer, finishing another 1/4 of the hedge and then immediately doing it again 👹
The wait's finally over; we've shipped @incident_io On-call 🚀 It's been an absolute blast working on this, and so I wanted to take a moment to shout out some of the incredible work that's happened in the last few months. Here are 3 things in our new product that bring me joy 🧵
We’ve just launched @incident_io On-call and I couldn’t be more excited! 🎉
Our goal was “so good, you’ll break things on purpose” and we’ve poured our hearts and souls into this one.
I think it shows ❤️
Wrote up some of the key lessons I've learned over the last 9 months through tech-leading a team and building our Status Pages product here at @incident_io - check it out ✌️
Give yourself time to get a handle on how to make decisions, delegate, lean into feedback, and rely on the flexible support of your engineering and product managers. https://t.co/rLM1EStmem
If you're holding yourselves accountable to high standards of pace, you won't have those classic "nothing to report" stand-ups because that's not a good enough answer.
Development isn't a solo sport. Use stand-up to pool your resources and move faster as a team.
All the replies saying motivated teams don't need stand-ups isn't the hot take they think it is
If you're a team working at pace, stand-up is essential
- What is the no. 1 thing to do that day
- What is slowing you down
- How can you be flexible as a team to get there
Too many meetings!
I have no issues with daily stand-ups.
They’re good for updates, unblocking work and staying in sync.
But there’re so many pointless and draining meetings.
Most of them are a waste of valuable resources that could be spent elsewhere.
How can this be prevented or improved?
Using Vercel and their domains setup made building status pages at https://t.co/z1MRnqpiGi a dreamy experience
So much complexity handled for us, meant we could just focus on building a lovely product 💆♀️
Introducing Platforms Starter Kit v2 → https://t.co/pmilGhZsQC
It's an open-source @nextjs template for you to build multi-tenant apps with custom domains in days, not months.
Built with Next.js App Router and the @Vercel Domains API.
🔥Introducing Catalog—connecting everything that exists in your organization to level up your incident response. 🔥
With Catalog, you now have a clear map of services, customers, teams, and more in your organization. ✅
Our new status pages are beautiful, but also really interesting under the hood! 🏗️
We just wrote up how we built it all on @vercel (❤️) & @nextjs. Covers ISR, caching and latency concerns, performance, timezones w/ SSR, live reloading and more 🤓✨.
