A group of Lawyers are currently staging a silent protest outside the Supreme Court in downtown Kingston on Wednesday morning, calling for urgent amendments to Jamaica’s Firearms Act.

The attorneys are challenging the Act’s mandatory sentencing provisions, arguing that they restrict judicial discretion and may lead to sentences they consider disproportionate to the circumstances of individual cases.

The protest is highlighting calls from the legal fraternity for greater flexibility in sentencing and amendments to the legislation.
