the biggest threat of AI isn’t layoffs, economics, or destroying humans.

it’s eliminating the need for painful and critical thinking.

banging your head, read docs you hate, spending a week on a bug, it’s all gone, and i too believe there is a downside to that.

here’s the deal:
acknowledge that whatever you use AI for will most likely slip away from your cognitive grasp over time. the struggle that ai has taken from you was a critical and painful signal that you were actually growing. how are we supposed to learn and grow post-AI? i don’t think there is yet a simple answer to that.

maybe for now, everyone can see how they can cope with this. maybe set out a portion of your time AI-free just learning/coding like 5 years ago and accept that you’re doing it slower than sb with AI but you’re actually learning things.

what even is learning?
are you supposed to *learn* like you needed to do 10 years ago?
how are you supposed to be better than the tool you’re leaning on?

these are very important questions that need answers. maybe you can think about them too.

jadi gaji dan duit yg kita simpan, belum tentu jd rezeki kita karena bisa saja duit tsb hilang sebab musibah (bencana, penipuan, kebobolan, dll). tapi kalo sudah dikeluarkan menjadi makanan yg kita makan, pakaian yg kita kenakan, listrik, air dll itulah rezeki kita”

Not related directly to her story but it reminds me of my personal encounter.

There was a patient, a lady with schizophrenia on medication and treatment, plan for operation. As I pushed her to OT, I asked her “dah kahwin ke?”

She replied “macam mana nak kahwin, kalau penyakit saya macam ni,” and she laughs at herself.

Her having good insight about her illness is great. But her insight makes me, somehow kinda sad. I kinda feel her feeling. The realization of her state and she makes peace with it. Berdamai dgn takdir.

I’m reminded of my boss in psychiatry once said “benda paling sedih bagi pesakit schizophrenia ialah bila dia sedar and realize apa benda yg dia dah buat (eg bunuh anak etc masa psychosis tu). Masa tu dia boleh jadi depressed”

Makes sense, ain’t it. Ujian ni sangat besar. Semoga balasan syurga untuk semuanya.

I ran away from home when I was 15. Moved in with my high school girlfriend. She had one of these.

I built my entire career with this thing and a pirated copy of Photoshop, working til wee hours on digital art with no clear idea as to why. Just because I felt compelled to create stuff. I customized it to make it look and feel like a Mac. I started making little icons and bits of UI in Photoshop.

Four years later and after having gotten my first MacBook I got an email from Apple asking if I wanted to interview to join the design team to work on a new thing they just released called the iPhone. Forever grateful for this silly plastic machine.
