I wholeheartedly agree with my friend, Monte. Rethinking classroom control can feel scary as we worry we'll lose student respect and earn colleague judgement. But it's not an either/or (total control vs Lord of the Flies)!
Once upon a classroom, I mistook (misused) authority for responsibility.
If I was authoritative, theyโd respect my authority.
But thereโs a difference between โin charge ofโ & โresponsible for.โ
Now, Iโm supportive so they may realize my (really, our shared) responsibility.
Ever since @LoganTMillsap hauled his kayak by bike a few years ago, I've wanted to try it, too. Thanks for the inspiration! It's always wonderful to find out what else you can do with a bicycle!
I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed @ #ucet23. It's a good overwhelmed, but I think it will take me several months to unpack. Biggest question swirling right now for me: how do @LucidSoftware, @canva, & @AdobeExpress differ, & how can I simplify for my 5th graders?
@RideUTA We were so grateful for Robert, badge 10683, as he waited for us in the Sundance parking lot while ski patrol mopped up my 6 year old so we could head to the hospital for stitches. He even carried in our gear for us! Thanks so much!
Toward the end of last school year, my students helped rearrange our classroom for flexible seating/learning. We had such a blast! Looking forward to building a new community of decision-makers this year! https://t.co/6eiHqVpxpk
Also "Aspire" just might end up being my word of the school year. I'm already planning on replacing "want to do's" in student planning with "aspire to do's."
This is a wonderful tool! School segregation is still such an issue: "1 out of 6 white school children in the USโnearly 4 million white studentsโattend schools that are 90 percent or more white." https://t.co/m9Plmc6qh0
