How do people see bravado in this painful photo of a helpless child’s untimely and cruel farewell to his father?
Who is even going to check on what his life and its challenges will be a week, or a month from now?
Stop glorifying misery.
My point, once again, is not that those ancient people told literal stories and we are now smart enough to take them symbolically, but that they told them symbolically and we are now dumb enough to take them literally.~ John Dominic Crossan
Now that it is becoming clear that Pakistan isn’t just the host but also a trilateral party and mediator in the #IslamabadTalks, the following aspects have been re-established:
1. Pakistan’s nuclear deterrence doctrine is not just the cornerstone of our territorial security but also provides us broader regional influence. This and our growing military exports and defense support to friendly countries is bound to benefit Pakistan in many ways.
2. Pakistan’s foreign service remains one of the best in the world and arguably one civil service in the country that remains arguably untouched by corruption. Officers still join it for prestige and for a lifetime of representing Pakistan on the global stage. Kudos to everyone from our Ambassadors to the young officers at MoFA working overtime these last few weeks.
3. The country comes together and is united whenever there is an external issue or conflict. This was clear during the war with India and remains true today. The neighbour just can’t digest this reality and their media’s embarrassing outbursts simply reflect that.
There will be many stories from (and about) this weekend in Islamabad. For us in Pakistan, hopefully it will be moments of pride, reflection and reset. May it all end well.
While I've been sensitive of the ‘not all Jews’ sentiment and there are multitudes of levels of morality between absolute right and wrong, lauding empty words seems detrimental faced with the enormity of the atrocities faced.
I have been schooled.
Easy to take a moral high ground from a place of distance and previlege when there’s no personal cost.
Much harder when righteousness requires surrendering advantage-and actually suffering the repercussions.
There is a Contract in the Qur'an that terrified the Universe.
The Sky refused to sign it, the Earth refused to sign it, the Mountains refused to sign it.
But you signed it.

I can’t help but think (and feel) that the world is generally very sad right now. Injured really.
Yesterday I was in Utah with family. Three generations. We played sports, enjoyed good food, saw friends, and just messed around all day. One of the best days in recent memory for all of us. This is where I grew up. It took me back to my childhood. Allowing me to embody those psychological states and feel the comparative difference between then and now.
The hollowing and sadness of the modern world seems to stem in part from our phones, social media, and the ferocious need to be seen and relevant in every moment. We have mistakenly idolized a specific kind of dysfunction: a manic, sleepless hyper-vigilance that needs to be omnipresent.
Everyone I know who’s unplugged for a week, returns reporting life-changing levels of improved life satisfaction. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t return feeling spry and vibrant and clear-eyed about the corrosive nature of current social culture. The science supports them feeling that way. They were in a dopamine deficit from the hyper-stimulated state of the world so everything felt gray.
So why don’t we unplug more and more often? We’re all kind of trapped in a prisoner's dilemma. Most want to move to the mountains and be relieved of it all but are terrified that if they unplug, they’ll be invisible. Real life consequences of reduced power and status. So we stay plugged in and drink the poison. This hypervigilant state keeps us in chronic fight or flight (anxiety). Simultaneously, our addiction creates a dopamine deficit (the emptiness/grayness feeling) and a background hum of anxiety.
Mammals are biologically hardwired to co-regulate: physical touch, eye contact, proximity and in-person vibes. Things which release oxytocin and activate the vagal nerve's parasympathetic system. Screens eliminate all of this goodness.
There are small wins to be had here. More in-person time. A day off technology per week. A block of 4 hours. One hour before bedtime. I hope that there’s a collective awakening that we’re all being mined for engagement. Then we get trapped. And then trap each other.
The average person spends over 4 hours on their phone daily - that’s 1550 hours/year, or 65 full days staring at a screen.
In the same amount of time, you could:
- Read 80–100 books
- Learn a new language fluently
- Meditate an hour daily & still have 1200+ hrs left
- Get 4 hrs of sunlight, walking, and outside time daily
- Learn guitar 1,500 hrs = top 5% skill
- Sleep an extra hour/night = 2 extra weeks of rest/year
That daily 4-hour difference is between being the same person next year and becoming unrecognizable on a mental, physical, and spiritual level.
The math is brutal because it exposes how much power we actually have - and how much we leak because the modern world makes us weak.
The most annoying thing with ChatGPT writing isn't that the writing is bad
It's the overuse of metaphors and similes and antithesis
-that's not just high impact, it's a revolution
-your body isn't just sending a signal, it's screaming
-it's more than improvement, it's PROGRESS
It's such an obvious tell, yet people leave it in
Watch a man's mouth for five minutes and you know his master. Does he spit poison or speak life, because the tongue remembers who owns the throat.Your lips leak what your heart drinks and you can measure the distance between a man and heaven by counting how many words he speaks that angels cannot repeat
