A whistleblower from Waitrose has just leaked an internal document to me, in which senior leaders have pledged to remove the name ‘feminine care’ from sanitary products, on the basis that “not all people who have periods are women”.

This came after they put up an explanatory plaque accusing Spencer of “reinforcing racist stereotypes and divisions” in the painting. If they are, as it seems, sitting on Spencer's masterpiece because they are ashamed of it, then the Resurrection should be displayed by people who aren't embarrassed. The Stanley Spencer gallery in Cookham would have no such qualms! Sorry, it's too important a painting to shove in a basement because your trustees are pussies

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn would recognize the consistent bullshit coming out of the UK’s Ministry of Defence on defence capability, defence investment and getting ready for war as LIES; and those that peddle them as nothing more than careerist con-artists.

I do hope this changes soon, and that the right (courageous and honest) leaders are chosen to change all this. But I see very little sign of it….
