@CalebTheSpy Love reading all the comments. Estrella is particularly moving. Matt used to come to all the shows and came to the studio as well. He was a sweetheart. For those of us that knew him the song hits hard.
@Rocktothawizzle Hmmm hard to remember that far back but most likely Coles 4038 ribbon mic as main and a Soundelux U99 as ambient - through Grace Design 801 preamp. There might have been an additional mic. As Iโm typing this I just remembered I have the session files. BRB
@Rocktothawizzle Ok the session shows 5 tracks. Horns recorded together. Probably a combination of Coles on trombone and trumpet. U99 on sax or possibly even Sennheiser 421 or U87 and 2 room mics.
@billthe8th@CalebTheSpy@fiveironfrenzy Actually it could very well be a mash up of both our memories. Now that you mention Tom fest the retreat could have been right after that. Or during. Itโs all a bit hazy for me. Frank may have โsignedโ them at Tom Fest and notified me on the retreat.
@CalebTheSpy@fiveironfrenzy They drove straight from the retreat to my studio and we recorded the album in 8 days. They crashed on my floor. It was the beginnings of a beautiful friendship. Haha
@CalebTheSpy@fiveironfrenzy Five Iron had attended a 5 Minute Walk retreat in Tahoe I believe - mostly because of check out the label. They were being courted by Brainstorm and a few others. T&N turned them down because they already had a ska band. They decided to go with 5MW at the retreat.
@Ineverglow@fiveironfrenzy@ROPOCALYPSE One thing I told young bands that I worked with is that people didnโt like five iron. They loved five iron. You have to be a band like that if you want success. What a fun ride and loved hearing stories of the impact our work had on people.
