Great to meet with Olavo Correia, Cabo Verde's Deputy PM and our 2025 IMF-@WorldBank Governors' Chair. His leadership will be vital for this year's Annual Meetings. I also reaffirmed our commitment to supporting 🇨🇻 on its reform journey.
Pleasure meeting #CaboVerde PM Ulisses Correia e Silva. Congratulated Cabo Verde on 50 years of independence and strong program performance, incl. significant public debt reduction. Thanked him for 🇨🇻’s support to AFRITAC West 2 training center. The IMF remains a strong partner.

@Noahpinion Not sure what’s in principle objectionable to the statement (utility of $2M should depend on wealth) but @vrexec’s calculation seems wrong: disposable income after expenses probably << $200K; the permanent flow of $2M could potentially double that, which seems nonnegligible.
@JonSteinsson Based on the estimates of a reasonable Frisch elasticity of 0.5-1, tax differences would explain half to two thirds of the difference in hours worked. That seems pretty substantial.
@robinhanson Difficult to agree with (or be inspired by) something that mixes inspiring & agreeable statements with simplistic & naive (& not always logical) ones—even for someone trying to rationalize techno optimism, this is difficult to get behind in its entirety. (And yes, far too long.)
@Noahpinion But since size and weight are presumably highly correlated, a weight-based fee would seem to be an efficient way to get at the issue (weight easier to measure than size).
