In 24 hours: one death, two attempts. Prevention on paper. Neglect in practice.

Yesterday a 29 year old died after jumping from a bridge in Glasgow’s east end.

Another young man was pulled back from a bridge.

Today a man in crisis was talked down.

Police told his partner he would go to Stobhill for a mental health assessment, then to the station.

He never went to Stobhill.

NHS hung up because he was “in custody.”

They held him so a nurse could see if he was fit for a criminal interview.

That is not care.

That is a man in crisis treated like a suspect.

We are done watching families lose sons and fathers while this government talks about prevention.

We are done with women being failed in our streets and men being left with nothing.

If you will not protect our people, do not expect silence.

We will hold the Scottish Government, the NHS and Police Scotland accountable.

If rapid change does not come, the pressure will not fade. It will grow. Take that seriously.

The latest official figures, for 2024, recorded 704 probable suicides in Scotland.

518 were men.

That is 74%.

The male rate was 2.9 times the female rate.

PLEASE my friends ask yourself a simple question. Why would a government spend public money in court to stop the public seeing a migrant data spreadsheet?

A think tank asked the Ministry of Justice for the figures on offences committed by foreign nationals between 2018 and 2024. The MoJ said no. The Information Commissioner looked at it and ordered the department to hand it over.

That should have been the end of it. Ruling made, data released, argument had in the open like grown-ups.

Instead, Burnham’s government is appealing. Lawyers, court time, your money, all deployed to keep a file shut that the regulator has already said belongs to you.

And remember what this file is. Not a research project. Not some vast new collection exercise costing millions. It sits on the Police National Computer already. Denmark publishes this. Germany publishes this. Sweden publishes this. Somehow only in Britain is it a state secret.

Victims have now written asking for it, like my friend Siobhan Whyte, whose daughter was murdered by a hotel migrant. People who were attacked, whose families were destroyed, are being told the numbers are too dangerous for them to see. Think about what a government has to believe about you to take that position.

Amina – the Muslim Women’s Resource Centre has been awarded £1,138,098.50 through the Scottish Government’s Equality and Human Rights Fund between 2021 and 2027.

That includes £207,019 every year from 2023/24 through 2026/27.

So what does Amina actually do?

According to its own website, it describes itself as an “intersectional organisation” supporting Muslim and Minority Ethnic women across Scotland.

Its services include:

• a national culturally sensitive helpline
• domestic-abuse advocacy
• financial advocacy
• employability support
• adult-learning classes
• weekly creative-wellbeing sessions
• telephone befriending
• anti-discrimination work
• immigration and visa advice clinics
• access to an Islamic female scholar giving advice on women’s rights

Amina says its helpline supports more than 4,000 Muslim and Minority Ethnic women each year and can deal with mental health, employability and immigration issues.

And remember:
£1,138,098.50 is just the Scottish Government Equality and Human Rights Fund allocation.

It does not automatically represent every pound of public funding Amina has received through other government programmes, NHS-linked funding, councils or other public bodies.

Whatever your view of the services, Scottish taxpayers should be able to see clearly:
Who gets the money.
How much they get.
What they do with it.

And how many different public funding streams are paying the same organisations.

Revenue. Profits. Legal-aid payments. Government money. Directors and ownership. Staff profiles. Deportation appeals. Article 8 claims. Serious criminal cases. Companies House records. Court judgments.

If they are prepared to advertise and boast about this work publicly, then the public is perfectly entitled to examine it publicly.
