I just had a call with a young eComm entrepreneur.
In a process of buying a brand and expanding hid portfolio.
He is telling me how he hates corporate douches and how he was at the airport looking at a suit walking through an empty rope maze, nobody in line.
And he watches a guy walk the whole thing - like every single zigzag, instead of just unclipping the belt and walking straight through.
He goes: "That's corporate people."
And I laughed, because yeah, that IS corporate people.
Process for the sake of process and glorified form.
But then I told him something he didn't love hearing.
You hate corporate and I get it, you are a little bandido who made something not following the rules.
You built an 8-figure brand precisely because you ignored everything the MBA crowd worships.
Good for you and you should be proud.
But now you want to buy a company.
Or you want real leverage to scale.
And guess who has the money?
The most corporate world that has ever existed.
I'm talking credit committees, term sheets, suits.
These guys you "hate" are the guys you need now.
And they know you need them and they hate your freedom, so they'll treat you exactly like the kid you're acting like.
Until you learn how they talk.
Now here's the thing I really wanted him and all you young guys to understand.
Those corporate guys you laugh at?
They don't walk the maze either.
These are the biggest rule benders on the planet.
Carve-outs, side letters, under-the-table deal structures.
Trust me, if anyone is rule bending its the suits.
The difference between them and you is simple.
They mastered the rules first.
In your work money comes before mastery because we live in a world like that.
This is why most of the guys coming my way know how to run ads and make 1M in revenue/mo but have no idea what private credit is.
And tho I think its way more important to learn how to make money - once you are at some level - you need to learn the language of the rich.
Also, you need to understand that you can't bend what you don't understand.
You just break it and then you pay for it.
So when a lender asks about your EBITDA, you know which add-backs will survive and which ones are fantasy.
When he asks about debt service, you already ran the number before he did.
When the seller note gets subordinated, you're not googling what that means at the table.
Do that, and something funny happens.
The suits starts talking to you like a peer.
And you start pulling terms the "anti-corporate" guy doesn't even know exist.
Being a rebel is great at 17.
At 30, with a term sheet in front of you, it's just expensive and plain stupid.
You need to master the communication, the presentation and the art of seduction.
You are comming for their capital after all, might as well do something for it.
Or you can call me - cause I do this for a living lol
But all in all - if you are young gun aiming for the top you should really understand that in order to bend the rule you need to master them.
Learn the maze first then unclip the belt.
WHY ARE ALL THE OFFER ON TELEMED COMPANIES SO SHIT
all they offer is
1 month supply
3 month supply
6 month supply
12 month supply
look at everyday dose offer, no one is running that shit on telemed
🤔🤔...
all you literally need to do is get in debt if you have to but lay foundations and scale whatever business your running
and then, ONLY THEN, if you need cash, you can go raise because you have traction
so moral of the story, if you want to go raise cash and you are not X famous or stanford grad then lock in on your own and build something spectacular, then raise if you need to
but in the meantime:
fuck all VCs
fuck all angel investor
fuck everyone
JUST BUILD
The San Francisco raising scene is gay as fuck
The people their that are raising, that don’t have X clout, Stanford or Harvard degrees, or background in the field are basically selling there soul
let me tell you why:
I was there about 1 month ago and i was just being my self, when i was on a walk i would spit, if i seen something out of the ordinary, like naked fucking people, i would call it out and laugh
and i was with this one guy, indian btw, and he goes and tells me
"Hey man, dont spit, dont make fun of people, dont laugh out loud, dont call it out, just forget and walk away"
and i gave it some thought and they are basically selling there fucking soul, not free to speak there mind
Like WTF, mind blowing
FUCK SF, FUCK SF
Another post incoming...
