Yesterday, PJM and ERCOT were both within ~5% of their respective all-time peak demand records.
In ERCOT, battery operators deployed over 10 gigawatts (2nd highest all time).
In PJM, which is twice the size as ERCOT: 0.18 gigawatts.
Batteries solve a lot of problems... 1/4
Your periodic reminder that we'd be getting crushed by higher demand and prices right now, and we would have had to build out dramatically more infrastructure to meet that demand, if not for all the distributed solar on the grid right now
Solar generated more than 30 gigawatts for 6 hours in Texas today. (Austin, the 12th largest city in America, has a 3 gigawatt peak.)
Solar power provided more than 35% of total demand in ERCOT for nine hours on a near peak demand record day for July. #txlege#txenergy
Yesterday, Texans used 1.7 terawatt-hours of power, highest use day in June so far.
And over 60% of that power, over one terawatt-hour, was produced by wind, solar, and nuclear.
World-leading energy innovation is happening in Texas. #txlege#txenergy

37% of new trucks in China now electric. And they're not just the little ones... This is (I think) 49 tons - bigger than allowed in UK and Europe.
This was at one of hundreds of battery swapping stations which give them 550ish kWh in about 5 minutes.
This sort of thing is very bad news for diesel, so of course you'll see a lot of the usual histrionics from oil lobbyists and their acolytes, but it's real, it's cheap, they're powerful and they're probably inevitable.
At lunchtime yesterday, Texas solar and wind generation crossed over 50 GW output for the first time ever.
Together, the two sources supplied nearly two-thirds of Texan power needs at that time.
• Stella Li told CNBC: "With innovative technologies entering the market, China's EV penetration will soon approach 80%."
➡️ According to CPCA data, hybrids and pure electric vehicles accounted for over half of China's new passenger car sales in 2024, and last month the share hit a record 62.9%.
• Li said that thanks to flash-charging technology, #BYD currently faces demand roughly double its delivery capacity in China.
• Li also set a new target for #Europe: 75% of BYD's local sales will be produced locally.
➡️ In May, Li revealed that BYD will launch a series of models designed and developed in Europe for the European market over the next three years.
China NEV retail sales rise 7% to 1.387 million units in Dec, preliminary CPCA data shows
NEV retail penetration in China reached 60.4% in December, surpassing the 60% mark for the first time. https://t.co/CI92mRm2Wr 👇
Beijing was the most air polluted city in the world in 2014 with average AQI of 500
But it is among the cities with the cleanest air in 2025 with average AQI of 100.
From AQI of 500 to 100, How they achieved it?
Just got offered high quality, 385W all-black monocrystalline solar panels from a Tier 1 brand at $0.13/W by the pallet. Another $0.01-$0.02 for shipping.
And you want to charge me $3.50/W installed? C'mon.
What a world.
Abu Dhabi is building the world's largest battery storage facility with a capacity of 19 GWh.
The project by Masdar and the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) is the world's first large-scale 24/7 renewable energy project in the gigawatt range. It combines a 5.2 GW solar park with a 19 GWh battery storage facility (19,000 MWh) and demonstrates that a continuous supply of renewable energy around the clock is possible. The project is intended to serve as a blueprint for other countries.

The UEF welcomes Mario Draghi’s call for a “pragmatic federalism”.
A deeper integration among a core group of states, preventing paralysis and enabling concrete progress on key priorities such as defence, fiscal capacity, and democratic governance.
