As #NEPAD turns 25,it is important to note that it was the first comprehensive #continental development framework conceived, designed, and managed entirely by African #leaders (specifically the heads of state of South Africa, Nigeria, Senegal, Algeria, and Egypt). It explicitly rejected the #oldmodel of passive "recipient" of #aid. Instead, it declared that Africa must take primary responsibility for its own development, peace, and security. This thinking led to the creation of @APRMorg & @NEPAD_Agency both being pillars of #NEPAD
Before #NEPAD, « donor countries »demanded good #governance as a prerequisite for aid, which often was a violation of sovereignty. NEPAD transformed this into a reciprocal partnership based on #mutualcommitments @Bankole_Adeoye @EstherineF

“The main discontinuity of contemporary African settlement is not between “#urban” and “#rural”, but between #metropolises and #intermediary urban agglomerations. The vast majority of #urbanisation studies focus on large cities, whose population figures are the most—if not the only—accessible figures. Agglomerations with 500,000 inhabitants are thus considered as “small cities”, whereas they are in the top 2% of agglomerations in the Africapolis database.”
