Corporal punishment predates the boomers. The "greatest generation" before them were also spanked. The remarkable thing about boomers isn't that they were spanked, it's that they were spoiled and allowed to completely wreck society with endless totems of liberalism.

What I will agree with you on, is that corporal punishment carries heavy weight. It shouldn't be taken or dispensed of lightly. It can more readily be used as a cruel tool to break a person like a horse than it can be used as a tool to guide. But just because that's true, it doesn't follow that there's an unequivocal categorical moral argument against it.

There is no good categorical moral argument here either way. There's not even any proof that this "old way" bore no fruit.

Again, I didn't read past your first paragraph. I'm not a high time preference kid hitter. I just reject the notion that morality began with the advent of modern social science, which is a liberal disposition whether you vote for Trump or not.

And yes, leftists subject their children to innumerable forms of abuse that don't involve hitting at all. That is an important point. As the article that kicked off this discourse stated, spanking is at an all time low and yet child abuse seems prevalent in ever multiplying forms.
