@_Mike__Kelly We have been delivering instruction synchronously & asynchronously since August. The most important piece, besides adhering to the district's safety plan, is starting each day with a morning meeting. When everyone checks in socially & emotionally, it makes all else possible. 💗
Years ago, a NY teacher, asked what books she was having her students read, replied, "We haven't been doing ANY reading since we started preparing them for the reading test." It's the same for other activities: Prep for any test undermines real learning: https://t.co/mH9TWp8lBI
"When I was teaching school, a man came to a parents’ meeting and complained about the extraordinary amount of testing we were doing.. 'You’re like a gardener who constantly pulls his plants up by the roots to see if they’re growing.' That is just what we were doing.."

13 yr old me. My secret Valentine turned out to be from my little sister, not a cute boy, which was TERRIBLE. But 2 yrs later, Blair would be dead, and that "depressing" Valentine from her meant everything. VDay is weird. Life is weird. But love abounds, in sunny, silent corners.
When staff members are having a bad day, how do they hope their principal will deal with them? With grace, with patience… cut ‘em some slack maybe?

One thing I've learned in life is that "i" comes before "e" except after "c." Another thing I've learned is to treat others as I would like to be treated. The former seems kind of silly; the latter can transform the world.

You were born to do something great with your life!
Life is not meant to be endured or just survived. It is meant to be MAXED OUT.
You were made special and unique and your life has a purpose and YOU MATTER.
The US Dept of Education says that they are bringing “outstanding educators” to work with them and share their expertise. When they bring in/consult with/study the writings of Alfie Kohn and Susan Ohanian I will start to believe in their sincerity. @BetsyDeVosED@usedgov
@NaoShoo@BetsyDeVosED@usedgov I have been re-reading (and quoting) Caught in the Middle, lately. I read One Size Fits Few in one sitting. Also: What Happened to Recess and Why are our Children Struggling in Kindergarten.

When we have more optimistic #mindsets, we are better able to buffer the effects of common daily life stressors and still feel happy. No matter your natural inclination, #optimism is achievable @GreaterGoodSC https://t.co/kpEXGI5nLv #edchat
"Instead of handling disruptions after they’ve happened, it can be more effective to set up conditions in which they are less likely to occur." Eight teachers shared their favorite classroom management techniques with @Edutopia. https://t.co/Am7KZLWZ7l
When teachers show vulnerability to students, they see what matters. The group becomes “a class not simply of teacher and students, but of people.”
