This is a small report tucked away on an inside page of Prothom Alo. It is a remarkable story of job creation, industrial revival and export growth.

Abul Khair Group has reopened four closed private jute mills in Faridpur and Kushtia, creating employment for around 15,000 workers. The revived mills have already begun exporting to markets such as Turkey and China, and the group has set a target of exporting 80,000 tonnes of jute yarn and jute products annually.

There is a bigger story here as well, the company did not simply build four new factories. Because the jute business is capital-intensive and so many private mills stand idle, it chose to bring existing capacity back into production by taking over closed mills. It has now applied to lease three or four closed state-owned mills as well, and says it intends to move into higher-value jute products.

There is no shortage of discussion and disinformation about factory closures, job losses and economic decline on social media and television talk shows. On the other hand stories like this rarely get the same attention: closed factories reopening, 15,000 people employed, production restarting and products being exported.

I strongly believe Bangladesh will keep moving forward, creating businesses, jobs, investment and export opportunities. Stories like this show that a real economic story is unfolding beneath the noise. The challenge is to identify these stories, present the facts accurately and bring them to a much wider audience.

On the night of Monday, 7 September, in Mestre near @comunevenezia , actress Azmeri Haque Badhon was surrounded and physically assaulted by a group of Bangladeshi expatriates while walking with her cousin and his family. Badhon, who stood openly with the July 2024 movement against authoritarian rule, was in Italy for the @la_Biennale , where her film The Difficult Bride was premiered on the 6th September.

In a live broadcast from her verified Facebook page, and in video she made public, Badhon describes being shoved and manhandled, having water and rotten eggs thrown at her, and being subjected to abuse. Members of her family, including a small child in their group, were not spared. She is preparing to file a formal complaint with @poliziadistato with the help of @BCGMilan and says her attackers presented themselves as Venice-based @albd1971 and Chhatra League figures who targeted her for her role in July movement 2024.

This was not a spontaneous quarrel between strangers but an organised attempt to attack and assault a woman for what she stood for on the streets of Dhaka two years ago, and it happened in a European city, in front of her family.

We ask the @ItalyMFA_int @italyinbd @EUinBangladesh authorities to investigate the assault thoroughly and hold those involved accountable.

বিদ্যুৎ বিল নিয়ে মিথ্যা তথ্য দেয় সিফাত আব্দুল্লাহ।

সিফাত আব্দুল্লাহ নামে গুপ্ত জামায়াত কর্মী সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যম ফেইসবুকে অশালীন ও কুরুচিপূর্ণ ভাষায় একটি ভিডিও প্রকাশ করে। বিষয়টি প্রকাশ্যে আসার পর সর্বস্তরে আলোচনা-সমালোচনা শুরু হয়। পরবর্তীতে অশ্রাব্য ভাষায় গালিগালাজ করা সিফাতকে পুলিশ হেফাজতে নেয়া হয়।
সিফাত আব্দুল্লাহ তার ভিডিওতে দাবি করে, সে গত দুই মাসে (আগস্ট-জুলাই) প্রায় ১০ হাজার টাকা বিদ্যুৎ বিল পরিশোধ করেছে এবং বিষয়টিকে অগ্রহণযোগ্য হিসেবে তুলে ধরে।
পরবর্তীতে একটি ফেসবুক স্ট্যাটাসে সে আরও লিখে-“এক মাসের বিদ্যুৎ বিল একটা পুরো পরিবারকে জিম্মি কইরা ফেলবো?”

সরেজমিনে সিফাত আব্দুল্লাহর বাড়িতে গিয়ে বিদ্যুৎ মিটার পরিদর্শন এবং কাস্টমারের লেজার প্রিন্ট, গাজীপুর পল্লী বিদ্যুৎ সমিতির দেয়া তথ্য পর্যালোচনা করে ভিন্ন চিত্র পাওয়া যায়।

অভিযুক্ত সিফাত আব্দুল্লাহর পিতার নাম সিকান্দার আলী। গাজীপুর মহানগরীর ৩৮ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডে তাদের দোতলা বিশিষ্ট বাড়িতে মোট ৩টি আবাসিক বিদ্যুৎ মিটার সংযোগ রয়েছে এবং বাড়িতে আরও ভাড়াটিয়া পরিবার বসবাস করে।

সিফাত আব্দুল্লাহ যে বাড়িতে বসবাস করেন, সেই বাড়ির তিনটি মিটারের মে, জুন, জুলাই ও আগস্ট ২০২৬ সালের বিদ্যুৎ ব্যবহার ও বিলের বিস্তারিত হিসাব নিচে দেওয়া হলো—
মিটার নং: S000433*7
চার মাসে মোট বিল: ২,৩৫৪ টাকা
মিটার নং: S000218*5
চার মাসে মোট বিল: ৯,৩৮৭ টাকা
মিটার নং: S000424*7
চার মাসে মোট বিল: ৪,৫৩২ টাকা

অর্থাৎ চার মাসে তিনটি আবাসিক মিটার ভাড়াটিয়াদের বিলসহ মিলিয়ে মোট ২,০৮০ ইউনিট বিদ্যুৎ ব্যবহার হয়েছে মোট বিল এসেছে ১৬,২৭৩ টাকা।

Both incidents were communalized by Hindutva accounts and media, fugitive Awami Leaguers and the Hindutva puppet @salah_shoaib.

This is how false narratives of Hindu persecution built against Bangladesh.

And let me mention another recent incident. In a gas leak incident in Chattogram, 9 workers were killed. Hindutva accounts portrayed it as a bomb attack targeting Hindus. Of the 9 victims, 7 were Muslim and only 2 were Hindu. Yet the incident was still communalized.
