@HPluckrose I read cynical theories recently and finally understand the madness around us. Its a brilliant book, and often very funny. Please thank her
@witch_worst@sheebadigeebies@Sorelle_Arduino It certainly wasn't an ethically approved or properly designed one but they have given these drugs to kids. I just think there's a duty to try to find out what happened to them
@sheebadigeebies@witch_worst@Sorelle_Arduino You may be right which is scandalous in itself but there are morbidity and mortality stats. Bone density could be compared to population norms.
@sheebadigeebies@Sorelle_Arduino The effects of the drugs are known in other populations already (and that's bad enough but at least in prostate ca it's scientifically and ethically justified) but this is a novel indication
@sheebadigeebies@Sorelle_Arduino But that mainly relies on clinician redcards and then the MHRA alert us. If the purpose is to block puberty with its known effects of doing that the system wouldn't pick it up. The manufacturers would surely say the drugs are offlicense so not their job
@sheebadigeebies@Sorelle_Arduino Using a drug off license is common in paeds but if its being used for a novel research indication- such as GD- it should be piloted first. I don't know what PV means but its unknown because noone has done the data linkage study if it showed harm the trial couldn't go ahead
@sheebadigeebies@Sorelle_Arduino Not for an RCT. First step is to pilot the intervention. If animal studies for example demonstrate signals the next step is a feasibility pilot of safety, feasibility and acceptability. A real world pilot has happened so that data needs linking
